Phyllis O'Toole-Wills Obituary

74, died August 26th in Boston, MA after a short illness. Mrs. Wills, formerly of Greenwich, CT, maintained residences in Osterville, MA, and Carefree, AZ and shared homes in Boston, MA and Westport, ME with her husband of ten years, Richard Wills. She was born Phyllis Treadway on October 13, 1932 in Chicago, IL, the second of seven children of Irene L. and Hayes M. Treadway. After graduating from Northwestern University in 1954 where she studied speech therapy, she married John E. O'Toole, also of Chicago. Although Mr. O'Toole was also a graduate of Northwestern, the couple met after school through mutual friends. Mr. O'Toole's successful advertising career took the family from Wilmette, IL to Greenwich, CT. Mr. O'Toole died in 1995. Phyllis maintained an interior design business, Interiors/Phyllis O'Toole, for many years. Her impeccable taste and design sense were trademark characteristics that clients, friends and family admired and from which many benefitted throughout her life. Her second husband, Richard, is the owner of Royal Barry Wills Associates, Inc., Architects of Boston. Mrs. O'Toole-Wills is survived by her husband Richard, her daughters Sally T. Whitesell of Greenville, SC, and Ellen O'Toole Hoeffel of Greenwich, CT, and four grandchildren, Emily and TJ Whitesell, and Jack and Oliver Hoeffel. She is also survived by her sisters Donna Bos, Carol Hoppe, and Lynne Daugherty and brothers John Treadway and Richard Treadway. She was predeceased by her sister Shirley Tomczak, and her parents. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 15th at St. Michael the Archangel, 469 North St.,in Greenwich, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Smile Train, 245-Fifth Avenue #2201, New York, NY 10016.
