George Revasz Obituary

78, a 36 year resident of Chelmsford, retired Raytheon Executive & Hungarian Freedom Fighter, died Sept.2, 2007 after a long illness. Born in Budapest, Hungary the son of Dr. Eugene Revasz & Barbara Anna Lung, George was a graduate of the School of Law, Budapest, Hungary, & was a State Lawyer for the Budapest Government for six years until the 1956 Hungarian Revolution when he escaped to Austria & then to the US. He was employed by the Anelex Corp., Boston,MA., for 10 years & in 1967 joined the Raytheon Company. At his retirement in 1993, George was the Manager of Material Control at the Missile Systems Division in Bedford, MA. He enjoyed a simple life & was a proud American having become a citizen on Dec. 17, 1962. His adult life in Hungary ended abruptly in 1956 when he was warned that the Russian Secret Service was looking for him. He was a governmental lawyer & from a powerful & knowledgeable family in Hungarian politics. George recognized Secret Service cars throughout his neighborhood & knew he could never return home. George knew of a secret road leading to Austria & escaped to an Austrian military camp. His wife Gabriella besieged with inquiries about George knew that he had fled & that she had to join him. Gabriella did not know of this secret road & knew only one way out by wading through miles of swamps to reach Austria. George & Gabriella had moved on and with the help of Cardinal Cushing & the Red Cross they were reunited in May of 1957. Neither George or Gabriella have returned to Hungary. Gabriella had to leave their two children, Edda (6) and Csaba (4) with her mother. Communist leaders refused to allow the children to leave Hungary. Governor John Volpe of Massachusetts contacted Senator John F. Kennedy & met with George & Gabriella. John Kennedy promised when he became President that he would get the children released. On July 13, 1963, daughter Edda now (12) and son Csaba now (10) rejoined their parents in Boston. Freedom comes with difficulty for some. George loved his new found freedom. He is survived by his wife Gabriella of 57 years; two daughters, Edda Revasz-Martin & her husband "Sandy" of Durham, NH., & Cheryl Revasz of Stratham, NH, two sons, Csaba Revasz & his wife Jeannie of Abington, & Douglas Cugini of Taunton; five grandchildren & two great-grandchildren. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Mass Chapter, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA. 02472. Acton Funeral Home thoughtfulguidance.com

My cordial condolence applies for the whole family. Unfortunately I knew Sheyne's Grandpa too little. I could meet him once, when I was a small boy. My father is George's brother. I remember him so weakly the fact that the only thing, which remained was an always merry man, whom I had admired somehow. It is not entitled to me to say somewhat about George since I know simply too little from his life. But he will always remain for his family in good memory. Also I am a part of this family, I divide the mourning.
Humans step into our living and accompany us one while.
Some always remain, because they leave their traces in our heart.
I am with you with my thoughts.

My condolences Sheyne and Family of Mr Revasz

I was saddened to hear the news about the death of your Grand Father

My thoughts are with you, Edda and your loved ones during this difficult time of loss.

I enjoyed getting a chance to meet your Grandfather and Gabriella, Back in 1973 - 75 during a few visits to Your Grandparents home.
He seemed to be quite a character.
What Impressed me I remember was his resolve.
He was truly amazing and so proud of his accomplishments
He was such a strong man he was probably around 40 at that time.
He left a good impression on me and I enjoyed his stories of Hungary and his beginnings in the US
I know that your great strength, family and friends will help you at this time of loss.
Be as strong for the family as he in his honor
Pass on to his loved ones An old Italian phrase which translated means
Remember that "Those who live in the hearts of others never die."
Keeping you in my thoughts during this difficult time,

Bob
