Mr. Sullivan's 8 p.m.-to-midnight show on WBZ-AM consistently placed among the three top-rated programs in its time slot. It capped a career that took the Lowell native from cable access to print journalism to fame on the airwaves, where he was the hand-picked successor to legendary evening talk-radio host David Brudnoy.

I use to listen to him every time I worked the afternoon shift driving home after work. It was a great show! I loved the way he did his show. I was really shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. Living and listening from Toronto, I could not always pick up the WBZ signal. But would try when ever I could! I will miss him dearly.

I just found out about the loss of Paul and I feel horrible. I am a cop in Ohio and in 2006 when I worked the afternoon shift I would listen to him almost everynight. He was terrific. I caught his show last year on the internet as I worked dayshift and wasnt in my car. Now I am back to afternoon shift and was trying to find him on the radio. I broke down when I read that he had passed away. I lost a friend. I miss him. Paul, you made me look at the issues from both sides of the aisle. You helped me to understand things that I didnt want to. Thanks for being there.

It's hard to say goodby to a friend you grew up with. We are still young, there is still time, we think. Our parents will go first, we still have time.
I can remember Paul and Kevin at the TVA in Tewksbury, we have time.
I didn't know you left us. No one back home told me it was true. I blew into town last month and heard something about Paul on the radio, what, what did he say. It wasn't till days later that I could find an old paper and read the truth about what Paul had endured these last few years. I'm sorry Paul you had to endure cancer and the complications. You are one who did not deserve that fight, but fight you did. God Bless you Paul, sorry I never had a chance to say goodby.
The McDevitt Family is saddened by the loss of Paul. We send our heartfelt sympathy and prayers to the Sullivan Family during this time of great sorrow.

On behalf of the Machado family I would like to offer our most sincere condolences to the Sullivan Family. When my brother Tommy passed away Paul wrote a heart felt article about my him that really helped us make it through. Paul left a basket with stuffed circus animals and circus tickets on my sister-in-law Lee's doorstep right before that first Christmas. At the time she did not know who left them. She and Thomas were very suprised and it brightened up an otherwise sad time in our lives. Ironically, Lee was assisgned as one of Paul's Hospice nurses. She had the opportunity to remind him of his good deed and to thank him for his kindness. It all came around full circle. He did something kind and was paid back in return. You'll truly be missed by all the people that you've helped over the years and by those that you could have helped but were taken from before you had the chance.

To the Sullivan Family, It is sad to hear about your lost. Many people listened to Paul each week. Because of the affects of sin and death we all have to wait for a greater voice. At John 5:28, 29 Jesus said "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life." We all can look forward to a time we all of us will listen to Paul under better conditions.

I met Paul while I was in Boston covering the 2004 Democratic National Convention. WBAL Radio's broadcast position at the Fleet Center was right next to where Paul and David Brudnoy were doing their shows on WBZ Radio. He really seemed to get a kick out of the fact I was an intern at WBZ Radio in the early 80's. Paul was very helpful throughout the week and was a pleasure to be around. He was a truly genuine person both on and off the air. My thoughts and prayers are with Paul's family, friends and colleagues at WBZ.

Deepest sympathy to the Sullivan Family on the death of Paul. I enjoyed talking with Paul on WLLH when he had his radio show. I met Paul a Few times but the thing we had in common was our families. Paul graduated from both Sacred Heart and Austin Prep with my brother Ned. Paul helped me out when one of my co-workers daughter was diagnosed with leukemia at age 9 Her name was Amanda Baldwin. Paul wrote about her and her family's struggle in one of his columns and he also came to a benefit we had for the family and presented us with a most generous check from the Lowell Sun Charities. When my own son Bobby died at age 25 due to a brain aneurysm Paul contacted me to offer his sympathy to me and my husband Bob and my two sons. Bobby was an organ donor and Paul wrote the most beautiful article about Bobby and our family in his column in THE SUN. To this day I still read the article often. I will leave you with an Irish Saying I came across after my son died. NEVER REGRET GROWING OLD AS MANY HAVE BEEN DENIED THE PRIVILEGE. May God bestow his love and comfort to you all in the coming days.

To: David Sullivan
Paul's brother...
So sorry of your loss of your brother. My prayers are with you and your family at this time.
I leave you the following passage from the Word of God which has comforted me so much in the past.
We do not want you to be unaware, brothers, about those who have fallen asleep, so that you may not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose, so too will God, through Jesus, bring with him those who have fallen asleep.
Indeed, we tell you this, on the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not precede those who have fallen asleep.
For the Lord himself, with a word of command, with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God, will come down from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Thus we shall always be with the Lord.
Therefore, console one another with these words.
Prayerfully, Margaret Dixon

I first met Paul Sullivan when I was in the ninth grade at Notre Dame Academy. My sister, Martha, was friendly with Nora Sheehan and Christine Geary. Paul and Christine were an item back then and so he was at our house many times. My first impression was that he was one of the funniest kids I had ever met. He didn't even have to try to be funny, he just was. He could light up a room with that wit and charm. Even though I was the little sister, he never made me feel inferior. I think that is what I liked most about him. I distinctly remember how much my mother and father enjoyed his company. When my father passed away Paul wrote a lovely article about him in his Lowell Sun column. It is something we will always treasure.
I extend my deepest sympathy to Mary Jo along with his children, his Mom and Dad, his brothers and especially his sister, Mary. We have lost a very special person in Paul Sullivan, yet we are all better people for knowing him.

Paul brought style, wit and modesty not just to the airwaves and newspages, but to life around him. I met him after we began reading each other's columns several years ago, and he invited me to be a guest on his radio show. I was a bit nervous, but he instantly put me at ease. He was one of the kindest, most down-to-earth people I've known. We talked about how fortunate we both felt to be able to "work" at something we loved so much. Through his radio show, his column and his life, he brought people together in conversation, debate and discussion. His outlook, attitude, patience and friendly demeanor are rare. He will be greatly missed. My sympathy to his family and friends.

My first Paul encounter was when he was a graduate student at Simmons Masters in Communication Management program and I had just started teaching. He holds the record for never - ever - being ontime for class and still earning an A grade for his witty, thought-provoking participation. Of course, ice cream for every one helped too! After that, listening to Paul's show kept me company, awake, and laughing driving home on Rt. 3 after a long day at the office. A rare gem of a man who touched everyone and shall be solely missed. To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

have a new Talk Show.
God bless his family.

I had the wonderful opportunity of working with Paul at the Lowell Sun; his wonderful wit, wisdom and insight to the political community was astounding. Being a cancer survivor myself, I know the battle that he waged for health. My deepest condolences to the family.
May your wonderful memories sustain you in the times ahead. Always remember that love is never defeated.

Dear John, Ryan, Kevin & Peg, I was so sorry to hear about Paul. He fought a couregeous battle and was an inspiration to many people. I hope you can take solace in the fact that you were there for him through it all. That is a gift in itself. Stand by each other now, though the loss will be unique unto each of you, a brother, a father and worst of all a child, I hope you will find comfort in each other as you recognize the sparks of Paul that will live on in each of you. Live your lives to the fullest as he would want you to do.
With deepest sympathy,
Pat Powers (Tewksbury)

My deepest and most heartfelt sympaty goes out to you and your family. I will never forget the write up Paul did on my husband Tommy Maher, who passed away on April 6, 1997. What a wonderful tribute it was to him. It is hanging on my living room wall, with Paul's picture. Paul's last line about Tom is that our world has been a bit more joyous and the less fortunate better off for his having been among us. This stands for you also Paul. You will be missed.

May there always be work for your hands to do, In your purse may there always be a coin or two.
May the sun always shine on your window pane, the rainbow be certain after the rain.
May the warm hand clasp of a friend always be near you, God's love and blessing always to cheer you!

Dear Mary Jo
I used to love to hear Paul and your Dad swap stories about everything and nothing. They were such characters and good people. I'm sure they're tormenting someone up there right now.
If you need anything at all don't hesitate to ask.

Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

Our prayers are with your family. Paul brought us many memories, was a devoted and loyal friend and he will always be in our hearts and prayers. Paul touched and inspired more people than we will ever know.
