I should’ve done this years ago but just, shamefully, didn’t get to it. Brian was a “best” friend since we were kids all the way through college and beyond. I was his best man when he married Chris; and I’m godfather to his daughter Kerry. I moved away from Belmont in the late 60s when I got married and pretty much lost touch with Brian and other Belmont friends. Brian was a Tremendous athlete and I was not. But he never treated me as a “lesser” and definitely enjoyed my “humor”. I honestly loved and admired him. May he Rest In Peace Forever.

Dear Evelyn especially for you:

My Mom is a surviver
or so I heard it said
but we can hear her crying at night
when all others are in bed

We watch her lie awake at night
and go to hold her hand
but she doesn't know we're with her
to help her understand

But like the sands upon the beach
that never wash away,
We watch over our survivng Mom
who thinks of us each day

She wears a smile for others
a smile of true disguise
buth through Heaven's door we see
tears flowing from her eyes

Our Mom tries to cope with our loss
to keep our memories alive
but anyone who knows her knows
it is her way to survive

As we watch over our surving Mom
through Heaven's open door
We try to tell her that the Angels
will protect us forever more

We know that doesn't help her
or ease the pain she bears
so if you get the chance,go visit her and show her that you care.

No matter what she says
No matter what she feels
Our survinging Mom has a broken heart that time will never heal.

With a heartfelt groan, sigh and then a gentle smile I received the news of "Trooper" Sullivan's death. I smiled many many times as I grew to know him from the NIHOA meetings. I will continue smile while I think of my memories of such a kind man. I wish all of his friends and family much peace as we all try to accept his passing.

Brian brought a smile to all of us. He was a well liked and well respected umpire both on and off the field. As a former Director of the CBUA, he also brought his sense of fair play to the leadership of the organization. He will be truly missed by us all.

My deepest sympathies go out to the Sullivan family. I only knew him as a referee when I was coaching high school hockey, but he was very much a gentleman who always had a good word for everyone. He will be missed. Rest in peace Brian.

To the Sullivan Family,

We have all lost a "diamond" in our midst. Brian and I have been friends since the SP Academy and our time stationed together on the Turnpike.

Brian was a good friend. He had his priorities set correctly: FAMILY FIRST. After family, it was a toss up which he loved more being a Trooper or being a referee. He had total dedication to both careers.

Brian spent his life being a "caregiver." He never shared the fact that he had inducted into the Massachusetts State Hockey Coaches' Hall of Fame. Brian's life was not about Brian...it was about his family and friends.

It was an honor to call him my friend and he will be sorely missed.
