Shirley and I had been friends for over forty years since we worked at the Lakeside Office Park. Even though we didn't see each other as often as we would have liked to, I did call her every two to four months just to keep connected. Shirley, our other friend Carole Portentoso and I would meet for lunch about once a year. We had been waiting to hear from Shirley so we could go to the Andover Inn for lunch before the cold weather set in. Shirley was always there to host some event - and she had showers for both Carole and me. We all shared recipes, knitting patterns, cat stories and other happenings in our lives. I'll really miss our talks and wish I had been able to say goodbye. My sincere sympathy to her family - and cats - who she loved and talked about all the time. Goodbye my dear friend. Pat Hewitt of So. Hamilton.

Today, Nov. 2nd, 2007 I just found out that Shirley had passed. I worked down the hall from her husband Frank Rhody, and after he died she worked there at the Lakeside Office Park and she, Pat and several others became friends, particularly in sharing of some of her cookie recipes. Over the years Pat and I and Shirley stayed in touch and met for lunch. I spoke with Shirley just prior to her last round of treatment and she was going to let us know, perhaps around October, when she was up to a visit. Sadly we never heard of her death and feel very sad not to have been able to say goodby. Our sympathies to the family, whom she cared very much for. Her friend, Carole Portentoso of Waltham.
