Betsy Fitzgerlad Obituary

Betsy Prettyman FitzGerald, wife of R. Leigh FitzGerald, daughter of Harold Lee Norton and Helen Ross Norton, a longtime resident of Cambridge, MA, died on September 19 at Brookhaven in Lexington, MA after a series of illnesses. Born in Douglas, Arizona, Betsy grew up in Medford, MA. She graduated from Radcliffe College in 1943 where she majored in economics, became active in student government and began a lifetime love of theater. From 1943 to 1945, Betsy served in the Navy as a Lieutenant (jg) for Communications Intelligence in Washington, D.C. Following her wartime service, she joined the New England Electric System where she assumed various administrative capacities for nearly twenty years. After leaving New England Electric, she devoted herself to raising a family. Betsy's sister, Barbara Norton, her son, Ross FitzGerald, stepsons, Gordon and David FitzGerald, stepdaughter, Hope Taylor, and many grandchildren and lifelong friends survive her. Services were private. Memorial donations may be made to Shady Hill School in Cambridge, or an educational institution of choice. Douglass Funeral Home (781) 862-1800
