Stanislaw Soborski

Of Newton, MA and formerly of Haverhill and Methuen, died peacefully on Sept. 22 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law where he had lived the past five years. He was 82. Born in Poland, Mr. Soborski pursued a lifelong interest in Polish history, especially World War II history, and accumulated an impressive collection of books on the subject. He was an avid reader and closely followed current events in Poland and the Polish-American community. He wrote frequent letters to the Editor of the Polish daily Nowy Dziennik newspaper. He maintained close ties with his native Poland. After retiring from Continental Can Co./ Haverhill Boxboard Corp., Mr. Soborski made extended trips to Poland to visit family and friends. He most recently traveled to Poland in 2005 to celebrate his 80th birthday. He was a generous supporter of Polish charitable and cultural organizations. Mr. Soborski was a devoted family man and took great pride in his two grown children who, to his great pleasure, are living the American dream. He also adored his grandchildren. He leaves behind his loving daughter, Atty. Barbara Brustowicz, devoted son-in-law Dr. Robert Brustowicz and beloved grandchildren Alexander, Katherine, Caroline and Allison all of Newton. He is also survived by his former wife Michalina (Kurys) of Methuen, his loving son, Andrew, daughter-in-law Cecylia and cherished granddaughter, Natalia of Dalton. He also leaves behind several dear relatives and friends in Poland. Calling hours at H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., HAVERHILL, will be Friday evening from 4-8 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 9:00 from the Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 in All Saints Church, Haverhill. In accordance with Mr. Soborski's wishes his cremated remains will be buried at his parents family gravesite in Poland.
