Jean Angle Obituary

90, died peacefully on October 2, 2007 in Vero Beach, Florida. Born July 1, 1917 in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of Helen (Foss) Forester and William Whitman Hobbs, the stepdaughter of Major Henry W. Forester, and the wife of Richard W. Angle (deceased 1998). Jean Angle spent her childhood in the Boston area and Marion, MA, Sedgeford, England, and Pebble Beach, CA, where she was captain of the first U.S. womens polo team and began her lifelong love of golf. She graduated from the Douglas School in Pebble Beach and attended Stanford University. Jean and Rick Angle were longtime residents of Marion, where they raised their three children: Richard (Chip) W. Angle, Jr., of Guilford, CT; Henry F. Angle of Sanbornton, NH; and Eleanor (Lell) A. Score of Boston, MA, and where she created and managed a yarn and gift shop, the Sitting Duck. For many years they also resided in Captiva Island, FL. She moved to Vero Beach in 1999. Mrs. Angle is also survived by her brother, Sturtevant Hobbs of Westwood, MA; her sister, Barbara F. Austin of New York, NY; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered for her wit, her elegance, and her uncompromising style. Contributions in her name may be sent to St. Gabriel's Church in Marion, MA, where a memorial service will be held at 11 AM on November 24th.
