My dear Elizabeth,
I am truly sorry that I did not get to know you better. I cherish the memories of Jeanne and me visiting you at home.
I rejoice that you are at peace and no longer in pain. It meant so much to me that you were proud of me.
Love, Joyce

Dr. Hadley's spirit will truely be missed in this world, for it has gone on to grace another. She charged all she knew to think diffferently about ourselves and the world around us. She taught us the importance of looking not only forward but back and to never be afraid to speak your mind. Im glad I choice to take one of her classes at Simmons. Thanks for you words Dr. Hadley. May your family continued to be blessed.

From the time you first stepped through the classroom door and announced "I am DOCTOR Elizabeth Hadley", I knew you were someone special, I just had no idea how much you would impact my life. Your words of wisdom and encouragement stay with me forever. I hope you knew how special you were to me! I am so disheartened to realize that we won't have another Thanksgiving together but I am comforted by knowing that you are at rest. You will always be remembered! Thanks for everything. May God Bless your Family.

The discussions we had in your classroom represented the true college classroom experience I was hoping to obtain. What I learned from you has broadened my perspective on so many encounters I have faced thus far in my life. Your wisdom was admirable. I will always remember you Dr. Hadley!

When I didn’t know
Who I was…
Where I was…
Why I was…
You helped me to find out.
Because of you
Who…
Where…
Why…
…I am…
Forever grateful for your contributions to the Simmons Village,
For helping to raise me up- from a child to a woman…
Rest, Dr. Hadley…
…Rest… knowing that God is saying “well done!”

Although I did not have you as a professor, I knew enough about you to know that you touched the entire Simmons Community and beyond. You will be missed, you were a living legend. You don't have to suffer anymore, I wish you peace as you rest forever in the Lord's Holy land. God Bless You and your family.

During my very first class my freshman year, I declared "I will try not to get emotional talking about these topic". You cut me off and said "Emotional? No, that's passion!"
From that point on, I made sure to take one of you classes every semester during my 4 years at Simmons. I will never forget the countless times I've walked out of your classroom, feeling like a zombie because I had just witnessed a touching documentary or had yet another dynamic conversation. I will never forget the times my classmates and I trudged through the freezing, snow-filled streets of Cambridge because all of the books on your syllabus could only be found at New Words. I will never forget the response my sorority received from the program in which you helped us facilitate. The world was so blessed to witness your intelligence and unyielding spirit.
You meant so much to so many people. Not only an educator, but a matriarch at Simmons. You will never, ever be forgotten!

I remember the first day of class...wow! I was forced to face myself: who I was, what I believed, what I truly stood for. Dr. Hadley was formidable and I was never so intimidated. But after, after it became clear to me that this was the "college experience" I was supposed to have. I declared African American Studies as my major that semester. Dr. Hadley’s presence will truly be missed!

You asked me so many times to be brave, to stand with conviction, to be unafraid, to read, to write.
I did. I do. I am. I will.
You asked me so many times, in so many tones, and I shirked, I shied away, I was unsure.
You asked again, your face smiling, a slight grimace, an outright and overt grin.
And I hear you. I heard you. I know.
You will forever ask, and I will forever answer.
A statement of query, an assurance.
To the woman who was unafraid to ask:
"are you asking me, or telling me"
I'm telling you. I'm telling you.

Elizabeth,
I want to tell you how much you have enriched my life and how special you were to me.
You and I shared so much more than anyone ever imagined. We were so alike in many ways that we understood each other like sisters.
My only wish is that I had more time to tell you that I love you my sister. You are in and at peace right now. There is no more pain for you. For those of us you have left behind, that pain will remain until we are together again.
