Arthur Day Obituary

Age 40, of Hyannis, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 13, 2007. Beloved husband of Susan (Mulry) Day and son of Arthur Day of Stow, MA and the late Joan (Doughty) Day. Carey was born in Concord, MA, grew up in Acton and Boxborough, MA and had lived on Cape Cod for 15 years. In addition to his wife, father, and stepmother Alexandra Zimany Day, Carey is survived by sister Karen (Day) Pierce and her husband Matthew of Dover, MA, Sister-in-law Doris Dittell and her husband Charles of Budoia, Italy, as well as nieces and nephews Vassar and Emily Pierce and Christopher and Darlene Dittell. Carey attended Fenn School in Concord and graduated from Lawrence Academy in Groton, MA. He studied horticulture at the University of New Hampshire. He was a horticulturist and landscape supervisor who worked most recently for AJN Property Management in West Chatham. Carey was a man of many talents: horticulture, photography, fishing and music were amongst his great loves and he had been an active part of the worship teams of Marstons Mills Community Church and Living Hope Family Church of Hyannis. Visiting hours are Friday Oct. 19 from 4-7 pm at Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main St. Hyannis. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am on Sat. October 20 at the Marstons Mills Community Church, 2135 Main St. Marstons Mills. Burial at Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit and reception at the church will follow the service. Memories and Condolences
for Arthur Day

Not sure what to say?

I have been a performer for decades now, but my first musical experience was alongside Carey in "L'il Abner" in the joint Fenn/Nashoba production. He was Abner, I, Marryin' Sam. I will never forget the loving, joyous and wonderful spirit of his. I wish I had known the man he became as well.

I just found out about his passing. I remember Carey full of life and was wondering about him recentley. I would love to pass on good thoughts and hope everyone who's life he touched will remember him with kindeness

I would like to send my deepest sympathies to the Day family. I only recently head of Carey's passing from the Fenn School Bulletin; I am sure all of our classmates would share the same warm memories of Carey, his humor, his kindness, and willingness to poke fun at authority figures who took themselves too seriously. Although I did lose touch with Carey after Fenn, I will forever remember and be grateful for the impact he had upon my life as a young boy. Carey, wherever you are, stay "Jolly!"

I am deeply shocked and saddened to hear that Carey has died and would like to extend my deepest sympathies to his friends and family who share in the loss. I remember Carey fondly as a classmate at the Fenn School. His sense of humor, sportsmanship, and that we dated the same girl in ninth grade will stand out in my mind as fond memories.

Susan, Arthur (Sr) and Karen,

Our family sends prayers and well wishes to all of you. We only just learned of Carey's death this week and it has been quite a blow. From discussions on Ravi Zacharias to listening to Ben Okafor, we had some terrific times with your husband/son/brother. Carey's zest for life was an encouragement to many, even as he struggled with issues that many of us seldom want to acknowledge or address in our own lives. To Carey: God worked through you, my friend, in some very creative ways. Prayers and blessings.

I was deeply shocked when I received news from Lawrence that Carey had died. He and I were good friends in high school and, though our paths parted shortly after graduation, I always think about him and the 'gang' (including The Bannister, Marcus of Arylius, Samulus- you know who you are) and our 'good old days,' with the fondest of memories.

The music of Pat Metheny always makes me think of Carey who introduced me, and I'm sure many others, to interesting music outside the mainstream.

Some may remember this original riff:
"Steve McGarrett was a man
Who lived on an island... yah.

He's not so bad, as you and me
He's not so bad, oh can't you see... ah bada bop bop bada bop bop."

Rest in peace Carey.

My heart goes out to Susan and Karen and the Day family. I knew Carey as a child, as he was a good friend of my brother's at Fenn and Lawrence
Accademy. I remember him very fondly. I saw him a few times as an
adult, but in my mind he'll always be that charming boy I knew back
then. Carey, and you who love him, will be in my thoughts for a long time to come.
