Dear Dr Vasa's family,
Dr Vasa was my doctor for 5 years, he was truly a wonderful man, kind and compassionate. Dr Vasa always showed his concern about me, he always shook my hand when he came into the room & asked me how I was. Not many doctors do that. I was diagnosed 5 years ago with breast cancer at the age of 34, after chemo I found out radiation therapy was recommended, I didn't want to go, I was scared & tired after all the treatments I had already been through. I met Dr Vasa & he took the time to explain everything to me, answered all my questions & put all my fears to rest. I was truly blessed to be his patient and I will miss him dearly. My thoughts and prayers go to all of you. I will always keep Dr Vasa in my prayers and be thankful I was lucky enough to be treated by such a wonderful doctor.

I am so sad to hear about Dr. Mark Vasa's passing. Earlier this year I saw his picture on the front of the MD magazine and recognized him as a former Zamirnik, just like myself. My heart goes out to his family.

Dear Dr. Vasa's family,
I was so saddened and cried my heart out on Monday when I heard the tragic and horrific news. I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 41, went through 3 surgeries and then needed 33 treatments of radiation. When I was told I needed to go to Brockton Hospital, honestly, I was not happy. I was too familiar with The Goddard and Caritas Hospitals. But the very first day I went, I knew it was going to be a wonderful experience. Dr. Vasa was my doctor and on my first visit he had on a magenta shirt and I remarked how beautiful his shirt was and I knew right then and there we had hit it off. He enjoyed my comment so much that each time I had a visit he would write next to my name--"must wear magenta shirt". He was by far one of the kindest doctors I have ever been to. He cared about me and what I was going through and he made me feel like I was special and he wanted me to live a good life. I believe anyone who knew him knows that about him, yet many doctors don't do the things he did. One day I needed an ultrasound and he, himself, walked me down, registered me at the desk and then told me he would come back for me in 20 minutes. In 20 minutes he was right by my side and walked me back going over the results with me. So many doctors do not have any empathy--he absolutely did-he loved people and cared about them, I don't understand God right now. Why take someone so caring in an ordinary moment? His secretary was beautiful and she as well was so kind and made me feel so less scared-every time I came in she said my name, how was I doing, and had the most beautiful sparkle in her eyes. This is what medicine should be all about. I must also commend the people who worked for Dr. Vasa-true respect they all had for him. Pam and Chris were the best. On the last day of my radiation I was given a certificate how I had finished the radiation treatmemts. Maybe I am slow but I finally realized that very day driving home that I actually had breast cancer. I believe in life things happen for a reason...I felt as though I had gone through to see the Wizard of Oz. All the people I met were wonderful and I have never forgotten their faces and never will. Dr. Vasa was the main figure-so respected and loved and I knew he came into my life for a reason---he saved my life in so many ways. Thank you to all of Dr. Vasa's closest family and friends for allowing me to be part of his day for a little more than 33 days. I will never forget anyone in that radiology department, I will never forget Dr. Vasa and how wonderful he was to me and I will be forever grateful. It will take me a lifetime to try to understand why it happened to him of all people and to his wonderful secretary. I know their spirits will always be with us and continue to guide all of the hard working staff in Brockton. If any other hospitals can learn just one thing about Dr. Vasa and how he ran his department, they will have gained a fortune=how to treat sick, scared people with respect, love and care...true care.
With much love and gratitude, Lisa Cummings, Raynham, MA
