Lillian Brogan Obituary

Died on October 25, 2007 at the age of 93 after a triumphant life. An amazing, compelling and graceful woman who lived life fully. Lillian was the mother of 8 children: Mary Ann, Joseph, Walter, Harold, Anne Marie, Francis Xavier, Bernard and Anthony and also had 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She gave each of her children the tools they needed to live rich and fulfilled lives, and enjoy a unique bond of love with her and each other. A great mother, at the same time she lived a second life as a successfUl businesswoman. After her husband Walter died in 1962, Lillian went to work at Con Edison in New York and rose to an important management position. Lillian was born in the Bronx, New York on February 14, 1914. She lived at 1912 Haight Avenue in the Bronx until she moved in 2000 to Captain's Cove Condominium in Quincy, MA. In her retirement, Lillian traveled widely with her children, and also she enjoyed the little trips to Newport and Hull she took with her children who lived nearby and those who visited. Lillian was blessed with an impressive cognizance and depth of character that remained with her for the whole of her life. She lived by herself and remained an independent spirit until the end. Memorial Services will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, Nov. 2nd at the Hamel, Wickens and Troupe Funeral Home, 26 Adams St, QUINCY, MA 02169, 617-472-5888. Visiting hour prior to the service from 10-11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Radius Specialty Hospital, 114 Whitwell St, 5th flr, Quincy, MA 02169, c/o Carol Gagnon. She did it her way and it was a life beyond compare.

I sure did/dolove my mom and wish she could be with me again for 5 minutes. That would be so special. I remember so vividly my Mom fear of leaving us and so much wanting for us to go to the "other sie". Right now I do wish I was at the other side with her.

Dearest Grandma Lillian,
To you I owe everything. What a beautiful family you raised and have left behind. My admiration for you is endless. Your family will continue to grow and I am proud to say that I am a branch in this miraculous tree. You will be in my heart not just for a while, but forever.

I will never forget Lillian's love towards me. It will remain with me forever. She made me feel special.

Maybe it is because mom had 8 amazng children and it could not be taken for granted that among so many you could still feel so special in your mom's eyes. She had her own way of making this happen, and letting herself be loved by each of us in turn. It meant more to me than I can say to be with mom and experience the intimacy of her presence and her unique being. It meant more to me than I can say to hear from her in her last words to me and to each of us individually, "I love you very much."

Mother's boundless love sustained us all during our lives. You always knew Mom loved you, wherever you were. What a gift! I especially want to express how Mom's love for life and family resulted in her giving birth to ten children. This is extr-ordinary. As the fourth child, I would like to thank Mom on behalf of myself and all her progeny who are in this world because of Mom's great love, will and sacrifice in having more than three children. We are Harold, Anne Marie, Francis, Bernard, Anthony, Kimberly, Tara, Kerry Berry, Christine, Timothy, Blair, Matthew,Erin, Harry, Isobel and, mother's name sake, Lilly.

Her passion was her children and with each she developed a unique relationship. She taught me many things by her example. Never give up. Be nice to people. Enjoy the moment. Work hard. Love your children. Love your self.

The loss of any member of a family is always tragic; but I think that the loss of a mother and grandmother is a particularily wrenching experience. Remember with joy all the many good times you had with her.
The thoughts and prayers of me and my family are with you.
