Thomas J. Downs

77, of Higgins Beach, Scarborough, ME, formerly of Chelmsford, MA died October 26, 2007 at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, VT. He was born on August 4, 1930, a son of James J. and Marie J. (Thunberg) Downs. He attended the Henley School in South Portland and was a 1948 graduate of Cheverus High School. Tom was predeceased by his parents and three brother-in-laws, William, Donald, and Scott. He is survived by five sisters, Ellen Griffin of South Portland, Margaret Malpass of South Portland, Doris Valente and her husband Thomas of Westbrook, Marie Brazil of CA, and Geri Merrill and her husband John of Portland; Carl Thunberg of CT; 14 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be from 3-7pm on Tuesday, October 30 at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, SOUTH PORTLAND. Prayers will be recited at 9:15am on Wednesday, October 31 at the Chapel, followed by a 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, corner of Broadway and Cottage Road, South Portland.
