Sarah Dewey Obituary

Of Chestnut Hill, wife of John Clarke Dewey III, passed away early Tuesday morning, October 30, 2007. Born December 4, 1924 in Hartford, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Oliver Russell Beckwith and Sarah (Goodrich) Beckwith. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, John Russell Dewey of Irving, Texas and Benjamin Clarke Dewey of Jamaica Plain, MA, her sister-in-law, Priscilla Dewey Houghton of Cohasset, MA, her niece, Kippy Dewey of Jamaica Plain, her nephew, Toby Dewey of Brookline, MA, her nephew, Peter Dewey of Hull, MA, her nephew, Harlen Monroe Chapman of Old Lyme, CT, her niece, Phyllis Chapman Fenander of Lincoln, VT, her niece, Eleanor VanDyke Taylor of West Hartford, her nephew, Oliver Beckwith Taylor of Princeton, NJ, and several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Russell Beckwith, and Phillip Beckwith, and her sisters, Eleanor (Beckwith) Taylor, and Corinne (Beckwith) Rowley. A Memorial Service will be held at Church of the Redeemer at 379 Hammond St in Chestnut Hill on December 8th at 1 PM. The BOSTON Harborside Home Funeral Service of J.S. Waterman & Sons is entrusted with the arrangements.

I attended both Westover School and Bryn Mawr College with "Benjy" Beckwith and remember her well. My classmates and I are very sorry to hear of her death, even belatedly now on Dec. 3rd.
