I knew Tom from the VA Institutional Review Board meetings over the past few years. He was, simply put, a good guy. His warmth, dedication, voluminous knowledge, and humor will be sorely missed. I offer my condolences to his family and friends.

I shall always remember my brother Tom for his being there for me, especially when we were small, and more recently for his knowledge of Boston, that I had left behind many years ago when I relocated to California.
My husband, Jerry, and I, last visited him and his family, in his home in West Roxbury, about three years ago. He and his wife, Nancy, very graciously were our tour guides and hosts to the, for me, the New Boston. He arranged for a family get together for us one evening and took us on a sight seeing tours of the city and the suburbs, narrating like a pro while negotiating the Boston traffic in his family car.
One of his latest telephone calls to us was on Jerry’s eightieth birthday in July, when he alone sang the happy birthday song to him in exceptional voice without any kind of discord.
We miss him very much. Joan

My Uncle Tom was a wonderful, caring, friendly person whom we had the pleasure of knowing mostly through numerous letters and phone conversations due to our living on the opposite side of the country. I will always remember the family gathering at Durgan Park a couple of summers ago and the lively conversation and good time had by all.

Tom was a enthusiatic, talented and exceptionally well informed advocate for patient rights and safety and for productive research during his long tenure as a community representative on the VA Boston Healthcare System Institutional Review Board. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all of us with whom he worked. Our deep sympathies to his family and friends.

I knew Tom from the IRB committee at the VA. He was thoughtful and charming, and I enjoyed my talks with him. I was always amazed by how well informed he was about the world around him, and how caring and thoughtful he was as a person. My condolences to his family. He was a precious gift.

Tom was my Dad and I will miss him very very much. He was the kindest, most gererous and most intelligent person I knew. His hearty laugh and quick wit were the best and he will be dearly missed by me. I feel very lucky to have had him as a father, a teacher and a friend. I love ya Dad!

I did not have the pleasure of meeting Mr. Manning my self, however the stories i have been told by Shane Reagan whom grew up around Mr. Manning made me wish i had someone like him in my life growing up. Always there to support and help is friends and family, yet so established within his life of work, and the dedication time and love, he put into all those around him. My condolences go out to all of you who suffer the loss of this wonderful man Mr. Manning.

Thinking back I remember Tom s smile and laugh. I haven't seen him in over twenty four years and the sound of his laugh and the look of his smile are still very clear to me. That will last forever with me and seeing all of his accomplishments I'm sure you all are very proud and blessed to have had him in your lives as a Husband and Father.
