Dear John,
From the land of things done and left undone, I rediscovered the email notice of your father's death in November. Late as it is, I wanted to express my condolences to you on this loss. My own father died in October, 1999, and I miss him still and think of him often.
I wish you comfort, consolation and good health in this new year.

Our hearts go out to the Samp family at this difficult time. Ed Samp was a remarkable man, a devoted father and husband, and also a member of this country's greatest generation who displayed remarkable valor in WW II. We felt privileged to know him. Our prayers are with Mrs. Samp, her children and her grandchildren.

Dear Samp Family,
I was very saddened to hear of the passing of the beloved Samp patriarch. As most of you know, he and I were the Presidents of each other's fan clubs, and Ed will be greatly missed. May the consolation of the Holy Spirit comfort you at this time of grief.
