James Murphy Obituary

83 of North Andover and formerly of Hingham died Nov. 30 at the Meadows in North Andover. Born in Dorchester he was the son of the late James F. and Blanche (McDuff) Murphy. He was a graduate of Dartmouth College, Tuck Business School and of Boston College Law School. He was a member of St. Michael's Church, a former member of the Quincy Neighborhood Club, a former partner with Cullen, Murphy & Co. and served in the United States Marine Corps. He was the husband of the late Rosemary (Sullivan) Murphy and is survived by his daughters Sheila Murphy of Alexandria, VA, Joan McCarthy and her husband Frank of Andover, brothers David Murphy of Falmouth and Joseph Murphy of North Carolina and grandchildren James McDuff McCarthy, John F. McCarthy, Kerry McCarthy and Katherine S.X. Murphy. His Funeral Mass will be on Monday at 10 AM at St. Michael's Church in North Andover. A burial will be on Tuesday at St. Paul's Cemetery in Hingham. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 4 PM in the Dewhirst and Conte Family Funeral Home, 17 Third Street, NORTH ANDOVER, MA 01845. Memorial contributions may be made to the Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack Street, Lawrence, MA 01843 or to the Edgewood Appreciation Fund, 575 Osgood Street, North Andover, MA 01845. Mr. Murphy,
Sir, I didn't know you but as a fellow Marine I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the USMC during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. It was the history and accomplishments made by you and your fellow Marines during WW II that all of us Marines who followed in your footsteps have always tried to live up to. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
