Dear Pha,
Sorry to hear of your loss. We met once many years ago when you and Pete had a Thai restaurant near Beacon Hill. Pete was my old college roommate and Fraternity Brother. He was a great guy. I'm sorry I just found out tonight, as I was trying to find Pete's phone number.

Deepest condolences Pha for your loss. You may remember some 8 years ago my wife and I were in the old East Boston location with our friends Gerry and Doreen Bliss - my wife was 9 months pregnant at the time. She ate until she could eat no more, and our son, Samuel, was born that very next day.
God Bless to you all - hi Pui!

A wonderful man. We live in southwest CT but are in the Boston area several times a year -- and never was a trip complete without a meal at Uncle Pete's. We last stopped by a couple weeks ago and saw the sign. Just a terrible loss. Our condolences to his kind family.

Deepest condolences from Hawaii. I spent a decade living in New England and held Uncle Pete's in the highest regard. During my sophomore year at UMass, I spent a spring weekend in Boston with my friends and had my first visit to Fenway Park - and also my first meal at Uncle Pete's. Since that weekend in 1998, I have been fortunate enough to go back to Fenway and Uncle Pete's on many, many occasions.
For me, a kid from Hawaii that became a man living his late teenage and twenty-something years in Massachusetts, Uncle Pete's and Fenway Park will be inextricably linked. That is the level of high regard to which I will always hold Uncle Pete's - truly happy times shared with the best of friends. Thank you to Uncle Pete and his family - may God bless you and keep you in your time of mourning.

To say he will be missed is an understatement... every time we went to your restaurant we were greated with a warm hearty smile from "Uncle Pete" he seemed to make everyone feel so welcome. We brought many friends to our favorite place to eat and will truely miss not being able to see all of you and we wish you peace in your heart to know that a truely nice person will be missed by many.

To Pha and the family of Pete Cucchiara,
Please accept our deepest condolences over your sudden loss. I've been traveling on business and just found out about Pete. We always enjoyed talking with him (and you) and eating the food at the King & I and the rib restaurants in East Boston and Revere. Sorry to see the restaurant has been closed; we'll miss him.

To the Cucchiara family,
Our hearts go out to you at this difficult time...although my family did not personally know Pete, we've had the pleasure of dining at the East Boston location and then Revere many times and told everyone we knew about the fantastic food...."Uncle" Pete always made a point of saying hello to everyone at every table...he was friendly, kind, and a true gentleman. Both he and the restaurant will be sorely missed.

I wrote this on my blog today, thought I'd share it here:
I find myself oddly depressed today to hear of the untimely passing of Peter Cucchiara - a.k.a. Uncle Pete of Uncle Pete's Hickory Smoked Ribs in Revere. I didn't know him well, and he certainly wasn't a relative, but in a weird way, Uncle Pete became a part of the family.
Uncle Pete's quickly became our unofficial family restaurant. It was Ty and I's first choice for a guy's night out when Erin was working night games. Sounds corny, but I kind of thought it would be a home away from home for years to come. It'd be where we'd go to celebrate Little League and field hockey victories or good report cards. And when the kids came home from college, we'd stop at Uncle Pete's on the way from the airport for some pulled pork and a taste of home.
The food was outstanding on its own (seriously, beats Redbone's and Blue Ribbon hands down), but, as I've written before, it was Uncle Pete's charisma that made the food taste even better. I loved the monologue that he would always give to newbie diners. ("If your ribs are gray on the inside, it means they were actually boiled and not smoked...") The staff, including his wife, always gave us the VIP treatment and were very genuine. Ty seemed to be a celebrity guest in there. Or at least, that's the way they made us feel.
Erin called me this afternoon a bit dismayed after driving by the restaurant and noticing a sign saying it was closed. It was only later that she found the obit. It seems he passed in late March, just before our last visit there. After a few weeks of braving it out, the family closed the doors on Apr. 3. I wish I had known earlier. We would have gone to the wake and had one last order in Pete's honor of his Texas Ribs and Burnt Ends combo, with a side of mac & cheese and honey baked beans of course.

Uncle Pete always made me and my family feel welcome. It was a truly unique experience, and it was all in his style and passion. My son particularly enjoyed how Uncle Pete would always give my son a scoop of free ice cream on the side. My best to the family, he seemed like a truly wonderful person.

Going to Uncle Pete's, having the beef ribs, and chating with Pete was one of our favorite eating experiences. Pete and I went to Boston Latin school a year apart. Sharing the experiences of BLS was always fun. We have been away for a number of months. A few days after we returned, we decided to go to Uncle Pete's for lunch and were so surprised to see the CLOSED sign on the restaurant and shocked to hear Sue's voice on the answering machine when we called. We suspected the worst so checked the internet. Pete made the best ribs and was the best ranconteur restauranteur! Please accept our heartfelt and deepest sympathy for your great personal loss and Massahucsetts great loss.

To Pha and the family of "Uncle Pete" Cucchiara. I am still in shock over the loss of Uncle Pete. As I sat down for dinner and was told of his passing, I shook my head in disbelief, as I heard his voice on the T.V, telling us how to make ribs. After a few minutes I realized that Pete would not be sitting down with me as was our norm. I will miss our talks, but mostly I will miss you, as will all the people who's life you touched. Rest in Peace my friend.

To Pha and the family of Pete Cucchiara. I am at a loss for words. I am so sad to hear of Pete's passing. I am still stunned. When my husband and I or my family would go to the restaurant, Pete would usually sit and talk with us all the time. He would always be so concerned about my husband's health and would get nervous when he didn't see us for a while. What a great guy. He will be missed so much. Pha, my thoughts and prayers are with you and I wish I could've seen you before the restaurant closed. I am so glad we all had a chance to meet so many years ago. You and Pete are wonderful people. Pha, I know he's with you. Even though I am writing this, I know my husband would want this to be from both of us but I'm sure he will write too.
Take Care Pha

The passing of the great Pete Cucchiara is an enormous loss to the community. Since Pha & Uncle Pete first opened their doors in Day Square my family has been devote enthusiasts of their work. Whenever I have traveled to the "homes" of Pete's cuisine I would seek out the best they had to offer and send word back to Uncle Pete about how far superior his skills were. From Austin to Nashville to the Carolinas I've never had better BBQ and I loved to share how they all fell short with Pete and hear him describe how their styles differed. Pete just lived this stuff and loved to share it - and you just don't find that anymore. I will miss seeing Pete, Pha, Deb, and the whole Uncle Pete's family very much. Thank you for 10 years of treating my family like members of your own.

Our family was introduced to Uncle Pete's restaurant by friends (Mike, Jackson, and Rafi). Because we'd lived in Texas and knew our barbeque, we always liked to kid Pete that besides having awesome ribs and burnt ends, his sides weren't "authentically" Texan--they were too good!!
It was a pleasure to go to Pete's over the last several years, and one of the best parts was talking with Pete and Pha. No could ever explain "real" barbeque like Pete! He had an obvious love for his work, his family, and his customers.
Such a sad and sudden loss--our thoughts are with his family.
