Brain tumors are not fun or fair. I worked for Dr Fox at Astra in the 90's

My thoughts and prayers flow to the Fox family during this sad and unfortunate loss. Mike touched many lives and his memory will bring smiles to all who had the fortune to know him. I first met Mike while interviewing at Astra. I remember he bent over his desk, put on a pair of eye glasses that had dangling eyes and continued the interview. It broke the ice and brought laughter to a stressful situation. May the Fox family find solace in knowing that Mike's warm heart, loyality and laughter will be remebered by so many people.

The thing that I will always remember about Mike Fox was his kind heart and his great humor. When Dr. Fox heard about my husband being so ill he made it a point to call and see if there was anything he could do. His kindness will never be forgotten.

There are so many stories and wonderful memories of Mike. His passing is so premature and very sad. Please know that his spirit and humor lives on in all of us that he inspired.

I worked at Astra USA, Inc. in Westboro in Regulatory Affairs and become familiar with Dr. Fox at that time. I was deeply saddened to hear of his illness and passing and my thoughts and prayers are with the Fox family during this difficult time.

I was a 15 year old senior aid and Mike was the counselor in Bunk O. He was starting Harvard in the fall and was already honored as a student and athlete. That was 40 years ago but I have never forgotten his combination of strength and kindness. I saw him next at Phin Tobe's 90th birthday, where we reminisced about that summer.

I am very sad to hear of Dr. Fox's passing. I enjoyed working for him at Astra. I spoke with him in January 2005. I am not sure if he remembered who I was. I myself am a 6 year brain tumor survivor. My deepest sympathies go out to his family!

I was so sad to hear Mike's passing away. I saw him a month or so ago and I have nothing but very fond memories of him. Thirteen years ago, he hired me to work for him. He was very loyal, caring and a great mentor. Over ten years ago, when my mother passed away he took the time to help me out and also shared the fond memories of his mother who had passed away few years back. This caring was very touching. Last year, Mike and I went to a number of Patrots and Red Sox games together which we enjoyed enormously. I will never forget the time I spent with him traveling, golfing, or just riding in our Volvos.

1970 was my first and only year at Camp Alton NH and I remember Mike very well indeed.
It was Mike who gave me his time to explain the history and culture of summer camps in the USA and in particular Camp Alton. I appreciated that so much because as a very green (Bunk M1 was Green!) Limey my visit to camp Alton was a serious culture shift.
There were some weights in a building at the end of the bunk line on the right on the way to the beach and I can recall spending some time with Mike bench-pressing some weights together and chewing the fat.
I also can recall something that he said to me as I was wheezing under about 35 pounds and he was punching 5 times that, "Most people think that I am doing this to impress Pam, but the real reason is that they are putting me up against Geoff, (the big guy) in the wrestling and I want to make sure that I am in good shape for that!
I am sure that during his life since then, he approached every hurdle in the same way, with total focus and commitment.
My heart goes out to Pam and their families and I will remember Mike as someone who gave me some of that precious gift, time.
With a sad heart,
Tony Gillott

Michael and I became friends relatively late, about 4 years ago, but it felt like a friendship of many years. We seemed to have something special because we seemed to have so much in common, but I think it was just his friendly way of making one feel warm and close. Our long chats outside under the gazebo smoking big cigars and drinking fairly good scotch were the best! I miss him.

Mike will be missed on a lot of levels. As assistant principal of Newton High School in the 60s, my dad tried to get as close as he could to as many of the kids at NHS as possible, and Mike was a favorite, largely because he wanted to learn about the stuff of life as well as the classroom stuff. I didn't know him as well as most of you, arriving at Newton high in my junior year, but Mike's passing seems to be another marker in our passages together. For me, Mike's legacy is one of intellect, excellence and thoughtfulness.
Deepest sympathies from the entire Howland family.

I have fond memories of my boss and friend at Astra USA...A big-hearted, passionate and very smart man who was unfailingly loyal and caring to those who worked for him. While we will miss his heartly laugh and generous spirit, we know that he has gone to a better place. Rest in peace, my good friend.
