Kenneth Hoover Obituary

HOOVER - Kenneth Lee Kenny Age 84, formerly of Belfast, NY, began his walk with the Angels August 4, 2008, after a lengthy illness. Born April 30, 1924 in Moosic, PA, he was the son of Willard and Olive Haines Hoover. On September 1, 1962 in Clayton, NY, he married the former Annie Monick. Ken enlisted in service March 10, 1943, and served as seaman first class. He was stationed at Sampson Naval Training Station, March 10, 1943 - May 11, 1943: USS Iowa, August 27, 1943-January 8, 1946. During WWII he served in both the European and Pacific Theaters where he saw combat. While serving he received the Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal and received 12 battle stars for the Philippine Liberation and Asiatic Pacific battles. For 35 years he was a machinist at the GMC Chevy Plant in Buffalo, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Cuba VFW Post #2721, the United Auto Workers Local 424 of Buffalo, the Sampsons WW2 Navy Veterans of Seneca Falls, NY and the Veterans Association of the USS Iowa. Ken, a true conservationist promoted balance and harmony in the environment and created true beauty and happiness. We thank him for the gift of teaching us about ourselves, from him we have gained the four virtues of fortitude, generosity, respect and wisdom. We know you will be near, and will listen with our hearts. Survivors: daughter and son Mary and David Arquette of Akwesasne, (Hogansburg, NY); daughter and son Ellen Brown and David Schwartz of Memphis, NY; three grandchildren Kentaratiron (Francis), Kanenishon (Kathleen) and Anerahtonkie (Kenneth); brothers Donald (Norene) Hoover of Cuba, NY, Frank (Phyllis) Hoover of Swoyersville, PA; sister Francis (William) Benjamin of Moosic, PA; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by loving wife of 44 years, Annie Monick Hoover; brothers, Willard Hoover, Norman Hoover; sisters Amanda Larrabee, Lorraine Aurthur and an infant daughter. Friends and family may call from 12:30-1:30 PM Thursday, August 7, 2008 at FAGANS FUNERAL HOME, 31 W. Morris St., Bath, NY. Funeral service will follow at 2 PM at the Bath VAMC Union Chapel. Following the service, burial will be in The National Cemetery with Military Honors.
