Jim, Donna & Family,
I just heard of Gram's passing. I'm so sorry for your loss. I have to say though, Heaven is going to be a LOT cleaner once she gets the angels on their knees scrubbing the baseboards! (I had to do that many times when I worked at J&M!) J&M was my first job and next to my own Father, Gram was the biggest influence in my future career. Her work ethic and dedication were the best, and I thank you for sharing her and the experience of working for your family. And Gram, don't be too hard on those angels, they'll get it soon, and those baseboards will SHINE.

Gram, what can i say....your highly respected as well loved, not only for who you are and what you've done, but for also who you became and the things you tried to accomplish along the way. I've learned so much from watching and even more from listening. It was an HONOR to work by your side for as long as I did. Myself as well as others, wouldn't have what we have if it was not for you Gram. You will be missed, but NEVER forgotten.

little gram, before i could even reach the top of the counter at the shop you had me in back plucking tomatoes. from that day on working with you and learning everything you were willing to teach me made me a stronger person in life. Not only did share that with me but all of your cookies and pie secret's made everyone who had to eat them happier too. My memories of our time we had together will forever be in my head and you forever in my heart. I love you little gram, may you rest in peace.

Being just a recent addition to the Guida family, I did not have many opportunities to spend a lot of time with you. But, from what I've noticed and from what I've learned from the family, you were a tremendous woman who loved your family, worked like a bull to make a better life for everyone, and was highly respected by all who met you. On behalf of everyone, we thank you. You will be deeply missed.

Mary Guida known as gram to all who worked for her or that came in to get something to eat. Starting John & Mary’s over 50 years ago and she has been an icon in the area. I will always remember grams banana cream pie which she made for me on my birthday and her spaghetti dinners when myself, Kim and the girls would come over for dinner. We have all put on a few extra pounds and stopping by to see you. (Thanks gram). After retiring for the hundredth time we would come take her shopping on Sundays and have coffee and doughnuts. Peanut sticks were her favorite as well as mine I wonder where I got that from thanks gram. If more people on this planet would be like you the world would be a much better place to live and eat. Love always Jimmy

Gram:
You were and still are a woman of great strength who touched everyone you met in a very special way. I remember the first time I met you, I can't lie I was scared to death, but realized that you were the type of woman I only wished to become.
You're family is what matter the most to you and I know that a piece of you lies within everyone of them and because of that we are all better people. Our spaghetti dinners at your house will be greatly missed but it is those memories that we carry on with us and hold close to us.
I am truly sorry that I was unable to be with you when you were put to rest, but know that you were and always will be in my heart.
I love you gram, and you will be missed but one day we will all be together again in eternal happiness.

Dearest Jim, Donna, & family,
She is no longer suffering. I know how hard her illness was on all of you. Anyone that knows you, know what loving and caring people you are and that her suffering was your suffering. Know that she is always with you and you will find signs of Mary everywhere. May you celebrate her life longer than you mourn her passing. May God be with all of you.

Dear Jim, Bobby, Donna and Family,

A Legend is gone. God bless Mary, she was an inspiration to all. Memories of John and Mary will always be with the alumni of Cleveland Hill, especially in the "old days of the 50's when John and Mary's was "our place" to hang out after school (and even during school). Special memories of happy, innocent times we will never see again.
My sincere sympathies to you. She (and John) will not be forgotten.

Jimmy and Bobbie, I am so sorry for the lost of your mom. She was a wonderful person. I just lost my mom in june, so I know what you are going through. I lived across from the stand on Harlem Rd, and my husband Paul gave John and Mary's their 1st Dollar. I ran into your mother shopping years ago and said she still had it hanging on her wall. She will be missed. you are in my prayers. God Bless

Dear Gram,

I will forever be grateful to have met you and to be a part of the Guida family. I will never forget our wonderful conversations and laughs that we shared on Saturdays at John & Mary’s on the Boulevard, taking you to Entenmanns bakery…in hopes that they didn’t run out of raisin bread, and most of all having you at our wedding…watching you dance and holding the limbo stick.

Bobby and I named our first born daughter Mia after you. We can’t wait to tell her all of the wonderful stories about her Great-Grandma Mary.

I will forever carry you within my heart…I Love YOU and miss you dearly!

To my "other" family. I am so sorry to hear about Gram. She was loved by many, and feared by some. My fondest memories are being a part of the Guida family. I'll never forget seeing her on her hands and knees scrubbing the floor with her big diamond ring still on, driving with her headlights on because she didn't know how to turn them off, and her wonderful sense of humor. She always told it like it was - you never wondered where you stood with her. I am glad she is at peace but she will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with all of you.

I graduated in 1957 from Cleveland Hill High School. Some of my favorite memories are from my time hanging around at John and Mary's. I am even in one of the pictures donated to our 50th class reunion last year. It sure was a long time ago but never forgotten. We kids were treated so well. We loved coming there. We loved our picnic last year for our reunion and all the wonderful subs. We had hoped to see Mary but that wasn't possible. I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom. She was a special lady. God bless you and the family.

To all of my cousins, my heart goes out to you.
As the tears roll down my face, I am reminded of many wonderful childhood memories of behind the counter of John & Marys on Sheridan. When my mother would bring us to see her brother John and his sweet wife Mary at the "stand" as she called it.
They would let me behind the counter to watch & learn how to make the perfect sub. I was facinated by the BIG toaster machine. Aunt Mary would be barking out the orders as they came in.. just as she did for many years to come..
How many of you can relate to that memory?
God bless you Aunt Mary,
I will miss you...
Please watch over us

Mary Guida will be missed by many John & Mary's lovers. My father & grandfather were customers for many years and my grandfather was friends with John. At first I wasn't into subs. But then when I tried to chicken finger sub, it became my favorite. Rest In Peace Mary. You and your husband meant a lot to the Western New York community.

To the whole Guida Family:

The last time I saw Gram was in 2005. I saw her at Millard Filmore Sub. I was there with my mom for her to get blood work done. As I sat there in walks Gram. We talked for a while and then she said when she was done she would be walking home. This is what I most admired about her. She was still independent. I will miss her and that wonderful voice giving all those orders. Right now I picture her getting everyone origanized in heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with the whole family.

May God be with you all.
Love,

Karen's mom

God Saw You...
by Your friend

God saw you getting tired,
When you couldn't do the things you loved.
So He reached his hand to yours,
and whispered, "Come to me".

You agreed, now you will rest.
God's place must be beautiful.

Mary, I will always remember you, your smiles, laughter and love you brought to me.
Thanks for being my friend!
