James Brady Obituary

BRADY - James T. Jr. Age 82 of Wilson, NY on August 27, 2008 after a long bout with cancer. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on February 3, 1926, the son of the late James T. Brady Sr. and Margaret OConnor. A graduate and stand out athlete of LaSalle High School, he was invited to play football at the University of Notre Dame by legendary athletic director, Frank Leahy. His studies and football career at Notre Dame were derailed by World War II. Rather than start school, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force. After the war, he returned to college and football, first at St. Marys College in California, then at the University of Buffalo. Jim moved on to the professional ranks and played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL. He completed his studies in graduate school at the University of Michigan. Much of Jims successful career in business took place in the Detroit auto industry. In addition to his career at Magna International (retired), he was President of the Crestwood Board of Education in Dearborn Heights, MI. Additionally, he was a candidate for the State Legislature in Michigan. He and his wife Edna Lofstedt raised four children. He was predeceased by his daughter Linnea Massey. He is survived by his wife, Edna, his sons, James (Tracey) and Patrick (Jennifer), his daughter Meghan (Chris) Gies, his 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Jim was an avid golfer and a member of the Windstar Country Club in Naples, FL. He was a member of the St. Brendan on the Lake R.C. Church in Wilson, NY. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, September 20 at St. Brendan on the Lake in Wilson and a reception celebrating Jims life will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the W.C.E.C. (PO Box 875, Wilson, NY 14172), a 501(c) (3) charity dedicated to enhancing childrens lives in Wilson, will be gratefully accepted.

Although my Grandmother Catherine and Jim's father, Jim, Sr.were brother and sister, living miles apart kept me from ever getting to know you as I wished I had.

I am pleased that my sister Clare and her husband Charlie were able to be a part of your life in recent years.

May Jesus wrap His Arms around you
as He greets you in Heaven.

Edna and family I am so sorry to hear the news of Jim's passing. I can see clearly the picture that appeared in the 1945 edition of the Nagara Falls paper featuring Jim complete with headset seated at the radio console while in the Army Air Corp. I will never forget the day Jim pulled up to our front door with his brand new 1949 Studebaker and let us all sit in it. Great memories, I will miss him.
