Dear Rosanne and family - I was so sorry to hear of Ronnie's death. He was good friends with my parents, Jim and Bernie Pollina, and as a kid I always remember how absolutely funny he was. I've never seen anybody make my dad laugh as much as he did. And as rough and tough as he was, he was a giant teddy bear. He has a special place in our hearts and our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time.

Coyle Family - I was so sorry to hear about Ronny Coyle's (as our father would always refer to him) passing. Our families had many associations over the past 40 years and we will always remember his retirement party.

Michael Bowen

October 23, 2008

Uncle Ron was a great man and even better copper. He took us sledding at Chestnut Ridge. I also remember driving around in his civilian vehicle with us kids. We pretended we were driving a police car, urging him to "Catch the bad guy, Uncle Ron, catch the bad guy," as we spend around town. He also was instrumental in helping to clean up Main Street through Buffalo Place after he retired making it safe for shoppers and businesses. He also was very supportive, working behind the scenes when some of us were involved in an lawful on-duty incident that was portrayed unfairly in the media. He gave his heart and soul to the job and the City of Good Neighbors was safe on his watch. He was the best copper of his era and is definately up there when it comes to all-time BPD officers. He is the cop that Hollywood often imitated but never replicated in their movies about coppers from the 70/80's. He was a wonderful human being and a privlege to know.

Uncle Ron, We will miss you tons! There will never be anyone who can replace your shoes. You were the best uncle anyone could ever want. You were so good to us all. My mom was surely blessed having a brother like you! Rest in peace! WE LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU!!

I was saddened to hear we lost one of the BPD's greatest characters. Ronnie was not only a very funny guy, but a caring man as well. He looked after a lot of us younger guys when we got on the job, and that is something you do not forget. My condolences go out to Ronnie's family and many, many friends.

October 22, 2008

I was saddened to hear of Ron's death. He was one of those special people who comes only once to enrich our lives. Along with many others, I have hundreds of memories of Ron: Reading the news paper and bringing tears of laughter to our eyes; sitting in an undercover van with the windows closed and trying to breathe while Ron enjoyed a stogie; flipping through his personal set of 3x5 cards containing the names of wanted criminals. Ron loved Rosie, his family and his friends unconditionally. No matter what the situation, you could always trust one thing: Ron had your back. I'll raise a glass to you old friend-see you soon.

Mrs. Coyle and Family, Our deepest sympathies to you and your family. I am George Battaglia's daughter and my dad and Mr. Coyle use to work together. I remember when Mr. Coyle would call our house and tell my Dad to turn on Oprah and my Dad would be laughing so hard that he couldn't even talk. From what I've been reading, he had that affect on many people, thats good. I know that they are together now, somewhere wonderful and we don't have to worry because we have two wonderful angels looking out for us. Mr. Coyle will be greatly missed by many and again, my sympathies for you and your Family. Trina Heywood (Battaglia)

Rons physical presence will be sorely missed, I know for I have missed it for years. But what happy sweet memories I have treasured and am sure Y'all will too.

A true friend, "a cops cop". A knack for quelling an ugly situation and lighting up a somber room.
He did favors for many people and asked nothing in return. He had the character to make right an earlier wrong and go out of his way to keep friends and more importantly be one.
He will be truly missed by me and my family. "God Bless"

My sincerest condolences to the Coyle family and anyone who was touched by Ron.
What can I say? I first met Ron when I was working as a store detective at Hengerer’s and going to ECC for police science in the 70’s. The best education I received was from Ron and not the classroom. How to run a profitable x-mas party, how to smoke a cigar, how to blame an accident on a black dog that you were swerving to avoid, how to place a bet at OTB, how to eat a pita sandwich and manage to “escort” unsavory individuals (not what Ron called them) out of the store. Back then he “held court” every Saturday morning and we would listen to story after story until our cheeks went numb from laughing. It didn’t matter that over the course of many years we may have heard one or two over and over but there was no one else that could spin a tale like Ron. And his deep infectious laugh just seemed to come from the very bottom of his soul straight into your heart. But the most important things I learned from Ron was how to be a good person as well as a good investigator, use my head as well as my heart. He never forgot to send his regards to me through others, I will never forget him.

October 20, 2008

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My name is Caitlin and I was one of Ron's nurses at Suburban. I prayed for him to receive comfort each and everyday. It's not everyday you meet a guy like Ron. Among the staff on 2 East, he was "our favorite". We would all fight over the group Ron was in because he was such a joy to be around. I always poked my head in to say hi to my buddy Ron if I wasn't his nurse, and with that cheerful grin of his he would say "There she is! How are you today Cait??". Ron was an inspiration to all of us at the hospital and I know I will never forget him. I just started my career as a nurse and Ron was one of my first patients. He showed me that nursing is most definitely the career that I wanted to be in. He cheered me up when I was nervous for my nursing boards and gave me a huge hug when he found out I passed. Even though I only knew Ron for two months he will always remain in my prayers.
