Julia Rumrich Obituary

RUMRICH-Julia Mary (nee O'Callaghan) Died Saturday morning, October 27, 2007 at the Riverwood Nursing Facility on Grand Island. Born on May 17, 1921 at her family's homestead in southeastern Alberta, Canada, to Kathleen McSweeney and Bartholomew O'Callaghan, she is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe and siblings, Eileen, John, Maurice, Kathleen and Margaret. She is survived by her children, Kathleen, Patricia, John (Alicia), Joseph and Sheila (Fred); her grandchildren, Eli, Gabriel and Nathaniel; and extended family in Alberta, Canada and in County Cork, Ireland. In 1946, Julia graduated with distinction from The University of Alberta, Edmonton, earning a B.S. in Chemistry and a minor in Classics. She worked for the Erie County Department of Health where she held the post of Chief Microbiologist and Head of the Rabies Lab. In addition to her work for the county, Julia served for more than a decade as a Clinical Instructor of Parasitology at the Medical School of SUNY Buffalo. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 30 at St. Stephen's Church on Grand Island. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The American Parkinson's Association, St. Labre Indian School or the charity of your choice.
