Dear Dorris and family,
I was very sad hearing of Bob's passing. I knew your family mostly though my dad's stories, but I do remember visiting Bob and my Dad when they worked together in Hamburg. Dad is very heartbroken about losing his friend. My thoughts are with you!

Cindy and myself attended the memorial service in Orchard Park, NY. The family really pulled together to make the best of a sad situation. Amy mounted dozens of photos and articles about Bob Bindig. I was one of at least three cartoonists / illustration artists attending. The National Cartoonists Society (NCS) loved Bob who really was a respected colleague. As an NCS member, his guidance and friendship means so much for me. Here is one of my favorite photos I took of Dorris and Bob together July 2004 at their home when they hosted one of many cartooning meetings. Bob's command of "back to basics" is good advice for family life and career work.

Thinking about the old Lawrence Pl gang with the parades, potatoe roasts and ghost stories brings a warm feeling. Mr. B was always there guiding us and scaring the devil out of us! What great memories! I am so sorry for your loss.

Dorris and Family,
I am so sorry to learn of Bob's passing. He was always very dear, a true gentleman, with that special twinkle in his eye! A man who could draw and pass you that special cartoon that would always make you smile. He will be sadly missed by all. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I didn't know this man nor did I know his name. But today when I saw his photo in the paper I remembered him. A few years back I was in a restaurant sitting with my friends at a table when he came in with a small group of people. As I watched them wait for a open table it occured to me that I could move and easily give up mine. I did so and about 10 minutes later this sweet man walked over to me with a napkin and handed me this "thank you" cartoon. I laughed and keep it for some reason to this day. I never knew his name only his kindness, talent and the smile I recogonized today in the paper. God Bless and thank you!

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Bob was a great cartoonist. I recall running some of his art in a National Cartoonists Society Newsletter I was editor of back in the 1980s. He drew such wonderful pictures! Personally, as well, he had great humor and warmth. When I would go to Tim and Robin Rosenthal's Barbeques, Bob was always a welcome sight! The world of cartooning will be poorer for his passing. My prayers are with you.

I have so many fond memories of Mr. B. Even when I was 12 years old I could tell he was a good man and a great father. He had an amazking sense of humor and he always helped make me feel like the Bindig home was a second home for me. These impressions are still with me -lasting since I was 12 years old. One such memory is Halloween Trick or treating around the neighborhood with Mr. Bindig. He would kneel amongst our group of kids with his long coat and his shoes under his knees-making him look like a one of the kids-sort of. The world will be much less grand without him. God Bless.
