Leslie Halfpenny Obituary

HALFPENNY-Leslie J. "Jim" A longtime Western New York architect died Wednesday, November 14, 2007. Born in Miami, FL, Mr. Halfpenny grew up in Steubenville, OH. He was graduated from Linsly Academy in Wheeling, WV and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. After serving two years in the U.S. Air Force as a First Lieutenant, Mr. Halfpenny worked for the Buffalo architectural firms of James, Meadows and Howard, and Highland and Highland. Upon receiving his architectural license from the State of New York, he spent many years as a partner in the firm of Fontanese and Halfpenny. He later established his own firm, which he operated in recent years. His architectural accomplishments spanned a wide variety of projects throughout Western New York. These included private homes, nursing facilities, commercial buildings, community development projects and renovations. Mr. Halfpenny was a member of the Ismalia Shrine Temple, Royal Order of Jesters, Glenwood Acres Ski Club and the Glenwood Presbyterian Church. He was a sports car enthusiast and an avid skier for many years. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marjory, his daughters Leslie (Frank) Bilotta, Kristin (Eugene) Hacker and grandson, PVT Hacker, Aaron E USMC. The family will be present to receive friends on Friday, November 30, 2007 from 4-8 PM at the KENNETH HOWE FUNERAL HOME, 64 Maple St., E. Aurora, NY. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 2 PM at the Glenwood Presbyterian Church, 9386 State Rd., Glenwood, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim's memory to either the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for Vascular Research, 9500 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44195 or to the Glenwood Presbyterian Church.

Les left many monuments including his friendships. I fondly recall him everytime I ride past his projects! He is still a great presence!

I worked with Jim on a variety of projects throught the years. He was always a pleasure to work with and his search for the best answer was always intense. I am sure he has ultimately found it.
