James Bladon Obituary

After a courageous battle with cancer Stan passed away in Athabasca Hospital at the age of 75. Stan is survived by his wife Brenda, 5 children: Richard (Barb), Diana (Byron), Jim (Kim), Sheri (Aaron) and Lori (Dave); 8 grandchildren: Michael, Jim (Sassy), Kate, Bekki, Stephan, Christopher (Georgia), Stephanie and Nick; 2 great granddaughters: Saskia and Bianca; sister Barb Woods, and brother Barry (Donna).

Stan was predeceased by his parents Jim and Kay Bladon, sister-in-law Pam Skelton and brother-in-law Brian Gulbrandsen.

Stan was born and raised in Edmonton, but spent the majority of his working life in Calgary, spending over 25 years in the computer industry, before starting a painting and decorating business. Always an avid sport and fitness buff Stan curled, skied, played hockey, squash, and racquetball, ran fifteen marathons, and participated in numerous triathlons, meeting his goal of completing an Ironman Triathlon at the age of 65.

Upon retirement Stan and Brenda moved to Calling Lake where Stan enjoyed fishing, cross country skiing, hunting and golf. Stan was also a Search and Rescue volunteer. Stan loved the small community lifestyle of Calling Lake and enjoyed the comradery of his friends and neighbours.

Stan's family would like to thank the dedicated team of healthcare professionals at the Cross Cancer Institute, especially Dr. Joanne Hewitt and Andrea Korcek, for providing exception care throughout his illness.

In memory of Stan donations can be made to the Cross Cancer Institute 11560 University Avenue Edmonton AB T6G 1Z2.

I had the pleasure of knowing Stan for the past 3 years. When he came to golf we had a tradition that we hug before he went to golf. He was a kind hearted man and I will miss him dearly.

So sorry for your loss, hold the memories dear to your heart. He will never be forgotten.

I am so sorry to hear about Stan. He has been in my prayers ever since I heard about his diagnosis of multiple myeloma. It's hard to believe that two people from our neighbourhood ended up with the same rare cancer. I have very fond memories of Stan (who I still want to call "Mr Bladon"), your family and our neighbourhood in Whitehorn. Our deepest sympathies to all of you from all of the Chipmans. May you find some peace and comfort in knowing that you are thought of with love at this time. Love and hugs, Sylvia Taylor (nee Chipman) P.S. I made a donation in Stan's memory to the Cross Cancer Institute.
