AVRIL LALONDE

Avril Patricia Lalonde (née Klages), age 78, passed away unexpectedly on May 4, 2025, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, the city where she was born and spent her life building a legacy of dedication, resilience, and kindness.

Born on August 2, 1946, in Thunder Bay, Avril was the eldest daughter of Patricia and Louis Klages. From her earliest days, she embodied a spirit of determination and warmth that would define her life's journey.

Avril became best known for her work as a courier - a role that grew into much more than a job. Starting out as the ICS broker in Thunder Bay, she was instrumental in creating and expanding the local ICS office, and eventually founded AM Direct in Thunder Bay with her husband Michael.

From its inception, she was there on the ground floor, guiding its growth with vision and perseverance. Through every challenge - rough roads included - she remained steadfast. Alongside her beloved spouse Michael Lalonde, and later with her son Chris, Avril helped shape AM Direct into a thriving business that became an essential part of the community. Whether it was delivering something big or small, they were known for getting it done with reliability and heart.

Her professional accomplishments were matched by her personal devotion to those around her. Avril filled many roles in her life, and took on many challenges along the way. She was a daughter, a big sister, a cherished aunt- and foremost a mother- always ready to help her kids be it artistic advice and inspiration for her daughter Nicole, or business advice to her son Chris. She was always there for family, offering comfort, guidance and a helping hand at a moment's notice.

Avril was a woman who gave freely of herself to others and had a smile ready for everyone she met and an open heart that welcomed all. Her generosity and willingness to help knew no bounds; she was always there when needed.

Avril is survived by her daughter Nicole and son Chris, sisters Marta and Kristine, her nieces Angie, Jessica, and Megan, and was predeceased by her parents Patricia and Louis Klages, her spouse Michael Lalonde, and her nephew Robbie.

Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those whose lives she touched so deeply.
Cremation and Celebration of Life for family and close friends will take place at a later date.
