Sophie Edwards Obituary

Our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Sophie Margaret Edwards passed away peacefully on January 2, 2023 at the age of 92. She was born March 31, 1930 to Thomas and Marguerite Kozy (nee Tomeck), sister to John, Ed and Irene who all predeceased her and Albert, currently of Elliot Lake. She resided in Gillies Township until moving to Fort William with her young family. Sophie attended King's Business College as a young woman and worked hard to build a career in hospital administration while also providing for her family. She would walk to and from work morning, noon and night from the family home at 2214 East Victoria Avenue. She proudly retired as Purchasing Officer from Westmount Hospital. Sophie was predeceased by her beloved husband Alvin in 2016. They had enjoyed 65 years together with many shared interests including fishing, camping and visiting casinos. Nano was a long-time fan of the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team and loved watching the games. In her senior years, she joined the Movati gym where she enjoyed exercising in the pool. She made many wonderful friends there and her participation in that social circle brought much joy to her days. She was very proud of her family. Nano leaves behind her Sons Gary and Randy and Daughters-in-law Maryann and Wanda as well as Grandchildren Shawn (Angie), Randi Doggett (Chuck), Cory (Lesley), Trevor (Barb), Lindy and Sheri-Lynn. Nano will also be mourned by Great-Grandchildren Deven, Kaelan, Kristine, Brandon, Riah, Lia and Lucca, Gaby and Noah. The family will gather to honour Sophie at a later date. Many thanks to the special staff of 2N Hogarth for the compassionate care given to Sophie since she took up residence in March 2022. She spoke highly of the fine people who worked there. Thank you for the comfort you provided in her final days.
