TIMOTHY ROBERTS Obituary

Our Timothy left us bereft this week. His journey was as unique as he was. He took us on a roller coaster ride, which was as high as the heavens and as deep as the ocean floor. He began conversing fully at 18 months old and never stopped regardless of the topic. Creative / eccentric / brilliant / sensitive / rebellious / adventurous / devoted / independent. Our Tim was complex even before his mental illness was diagnosed. His immediate family, Noelle and Derek, Joseph, Jono and Stefan poured our love and efforts into guiding and supporting Tim while trying to honour his own special path. There was a magical and deep bond between Tim and Jono which led to a world of childhood adventures. Jono now creates them with his own amazing three sons. Between Tim and Stefan the special bond was unconditional and of the heart as it now is between Stefan and his two beautiful daughters. The incredible staff and community at Stepping Stones Manor and Langin Place in Calgary loved and advocated for our child and brother. We owe them admiration beyond words. They valued his heart and soul as we do but without the question, "Why?" Tim's life was accidentally ended by a drug overdose. For such a fighter he "went 'gently' into that dark night." Strangely this gives us peace even in the pain of our loss. His brothers are travelling to Tim's side to help complete his journey from life to death. His brothers understood, "Tim was never really of this world." As his family we are ever grateful for the crazy, wonderful mystery of his life.

Langin and Stepping Stone Manor had the honour of having Tim in their lives for over 10 years. A creative, caring, brilliant human being with the ability to bring insight to staff and community. Loved to engage on his terms and often could be heard singing songs that he wrote himself. Quick to help others less fortunate and a guardian for those who needed one. Tim's family was always there for Tim and he did know that. He chose to live independent of them but often talked with staff about his family. He is missed by us all.

What a lovely tribute. I remember him as bright in intellect but dark in mood, funny but also deadly serious. I have nothing but good memories of all three brothers, 30 years ago. Condolences to his family, I am so very sorry.
