Charles Gibson Obituary

Jul 12, 1934 - Jul 28, 2012

Charles Thomas Gibson, Chuck or Charlie to his friends, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Saturday July 28th, 2012.

Born July 12, 1934 in Port Hammond BC near Maple Ridge, Charles was the son of Victor and Kathleen Gibson. Charles launched a career as a mechanic, starting his first mechanics job at Begg Motors in Vancouver BC. While apprenticing, Charles earned extra income driving passengers from Vancouver to Maple Ridge and one of those passengers, Beverly Joan Fuller, caught his eye and would become his wife of 56 years. He worked in various aspects of the automotive industry including service manager, lease manager and general manager. The family moved from Maple Ridge to Prince George and eventually settled in Tsawwassen in 1966.

In 1972 he wanted to spend more time with his sons and purchased a hardware store there. He operated this store and a second one in White Rock with his sons, working together with them to teach skills that would serve them in their own careers. He then purchased a Minit Tune shop in Burnaby and another in White Rock. He sold this to one of his sons and though retired from the business, kept active fixing bicycles, lawnmowers and whatever needed restoration. Charles was a true mechanic, a wizard at fabricating parts to put whatever needed to be repaired in working order. Charles was very active in his church, South Delta Baptist. He served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher, Christian Service Brigade leader and in various other ministries. He loved his church and served there faithfully for over 45 years. Charles is survived by his wife Beverley, Sister Maureen Christian, (Bud), sons John, (Debbie), Bill, (Valerie), Rob, (Sue), Tim, (Diana), Danny (Candace) and 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren with two more scheduled to arrive soon. A memorial service was held Thursday, August 2 at South Delta Baptist church at 2 p.m.

Bev,
It has been a long time since Maple Ridge High and Maple Ridge Baptist Church. Some folks are never forgotten even though there are long periods without contact. Charlie was someone I have never forgotten. Bev, take care of yourself.

We remember " the Gibson family " well, and Chuck was a true Man of God. He is now in a better place with his body fully restored, for eternity, Praise God.

Having moved to the US 15 years ago, our lives have changed, we attend a great church, and think of South Delta often. What a great foundation!

God Be with you at this special time of sorrow, but knowing he is with our Savior, Rejoice
