GURNEY, Peter Richard
May 18, 1936 - June 16, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce that Peter passed away at Delta Hospital on June 16th, 2023.
Born and raised in Manchester, U.K. He attended Manchester Grammar School and went on to graduate from Cambridge University with a Masters Degree in Engineering. His career took he and his family to live and work in Holland and Indonesia before settling in Canada in 1974.
Peter has been a keen member of different choirs, including the Richmond Community Choir where the highlight was 2 performances at Carnegie Hall. More recently he has been with the Elder College Choir.
He was also a long time volunteer with Victim Services with many hours of dedicated service. He has also been volunteering at Kin Village Community Centre for the past 2 years.
In 2018 after suffering a severe infection, Peter became paraplegic and spent nearly 2 years between Delta Hospital and Kin Village Long Term Care. With immense courage and determination with the wonderful care he received, he learned to walk again and was able to return home.
For this valiant effort Peter was nominated for the Courage to Come Back Award. He will be deeply missed by his wife Coral and his children and grandchildren, also friends and family at home and abroad.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Kin Village Community Centre in Tsawwassen would be greatly appreciated. Grateful thanks to Dr. Noble, Dr. Kordic and the staff at Delta Hospital and Kin Village.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. David's Anglican Church, 1115 51A Street, South. Delta on Saturday, July 29th at 2:00 P.M.

So sorry to hear that Peter has passed away - he showed so much courage and perseverance in recent years and was an inspiration to alot of us. our condolences Coral.
