Norma was born on July 3, 1929 in Madras, India to Thomas and Sarah Holroyd. She was one of seven children, three brothers and four sisters. On December 15, 1948 Norma married William Egan, and after completing their training as teachers at Vincent Hill School, located in the foothills of the Himalayas in Mussoorie, the two of them made considerable contributions as educators within the Seventh-Day Adventist missionary school system, moving between Spencer Road School in Bangalore, Spicer Missionary College in Poona, and pioneering the middle school in Secunderabad. After a return to Spicer College in the early 60's, after the arrival of son William (Bill) and daughter Desire, the family left Spicer College and immigrated first to England, then Canada. Settling in Oakville, Ontario in August of 1963, Norma has remained here for the rest of her life, raising her family and working for many years at the Pottery Supply House , and then within the Public Works Department at the town of Oakville until her retirement. Along with her great love of knitting, Norma enjoyed music enormously and members of the congregation of the Bronte Seventh-Day Adventist Church fondly remember her playing piano during service. Norma is predeceased by husband William in 2007, and survived by son Bill, daughter Desire and grandson Jason. Online condolences may be offered at
