Leato Wetherald Obituary

Leato was 110 years and 4 months when she passed away. Leato's family moved from Dresden, Ontario to 100 Mile House, BC in 1953.

They purchased a partnership in a logging, sawmill business in which Leato became the bookkeeper. This business partnership became a lifelong friendship. Leato's family relocated to Kamloops in 1958 where Leato worked as a bookkeeper for a law firm for over 20 years. Her co-workers at the law firm became like a second family to Leato. Over the years Leato enjoyed many trips back to Ontario for family reunions. At the age of 101 Leato moved from Kamloops to Vancouver to be closer to her family and spent six years enjoying independent living at Shannon Oaks. Requiring more care at the age of 107 Leato relocated to the Royal Arch Home where she spent her final years.

Predeceased by her husband Murray, brothers and sisters. Survived by sister Jean Law, daughter Gail MacDonald (Ken), granddaughter Deanna Ruby (Mike), grandson Brent Ciochetti, great-grandchildren Jake, Caden, Wyatt and Gabrielle. Even though we are mourning her loss we should cherish our memories. Leato was a gracious, caring and positive lady who was "young at heart".

She will be missed by many.

I worked with Leato at Humphries, Gray and Houghton law offices fresh out of school in 1959 and she was such a classy, patient lady and my mentor. She was the "mother hen" to the young staff and I loved her for it. I was just commenting to my husband, Vic, the other day, "I wonder where Leato is living, haven´t heard or seen anything about her from any staff who used to work with her and was shocked when I saw her obituary. One hundred and ten years and 4 months old, WOW, that is a long, well lived life. Our condolences to Gail and family, you were very lucky to have her as your mom and your children/grandchildren as their grandma for as long as you did, we are sure you made many incredible memories together. Rest in Peace, Leato

Dear Gail, Ken and family,
I absolutely treasure so many memories of the long and wonderful friendship that Leato and I shared. Working with her at the law firm was the beginning of one of my most precious relationships.
We are all immeasurably blessed to have known Leato and shared in her pure, amazing light.
Sending you sympathy, love & warm hugs.
