Paul DIEBEL Obituary

Passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at St. Mary's General Hospital, Kitchener. Paul was born 73 years ago on October 4, 1946 a on of the late Albert and Pearl (Miller) Diebel. Beloved husband and best friend of Pat (Cook) Diebel whom he married on March 10, 1972. Devoted and loving father and grandfather to Scott Diebel and wife Melissa Gray and their daughters Atlanta and Lily; Todd Diebel and wife Kristin and their children Harry and Isabelle and Pamela and her husband Jeff Balfour and their daughters Ellie and Beatrice. Paul will be deeply missed by his sister Elaine Bretz and brother in law Bob Cook and wife Joan and by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother-in-law Murray Bretz. Paul was a man of many things. But what he was most famous for was being an amazing papa. Papa loved his girls and his only boy more than life itself. Paul worked for JM Scheinders on Courtland in Kitchener for 42 years. He was a foreman and retired in the Research and Development Department. He took pride in being apart of the JMS team. When Paul wasn't busy working you could find him at the arena. Paul's love for hockey began at a young age. He was the trainer of the New Hamburg Hahns Junior C team. His love for hockey continued through the years watching his children play and attending most of the Firebirds home games. He was not only devoted to his family he was devoted to the New Hamburg community. Paul was apart of the Optimist Club of New Hamburg for many years, past president and coordinator of many of their fundraising events. Paul was happiest when he was helping others whether it was fundraising, offering advice, leading a tool, or needing a pep talk he was there. Paul spent the last couple years of his retirement watching his grandkids enjoying time at his trailer. Paul was a part of the Trinity Lutheran Choir for many years. He enjoyed entertaining the congregation and was honored to share hymns during memorials. Paul will be missed by many but he would want everyone to share memories of time spent and enjoy everyday to the fullest. Cremation has taken place at Paul;s request. A private family graveside service to take place at Riverside Cemetery, New Hamburg. A celebration of Paul's life will take place at a later date and will be announced at that time. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the New Hamburg Optimist Club would be appreciated. Pat, mom and I are thinking of you right now and sending all of our love. I have so many wonderful memories of the camping gang and all the time we spent together. So many laughs, so many fun times and everlasting friendships. I can still hear dad calling Paul Dibbel. Much love to you and the kids

My condolences to family and friends of Paul.
Paul did have such a huge heart and desire to support others in the community. Last year Paul (and fellow Optimist, Tim) approached me to help sponsor a Christmas dinner for some of our clients. He was a hard worker and had such a kind heart. I was very touched and loved serving along side of him. I will really miss Paul.

Dear Pat and Family: Paul was our neighbourhood rock!! If you needed help, go to Paul and he,d be there. Any neighbourhood project that you needed extra help with, you could count on him being there. Paul enjoyed pranks, teasing and as many porch parties as he had time for!
After one trip to the UK, we arrived home to find some of the furniture from upstairs was downstairs and the downstairs furniture was upstairs!
Another time, I found a five foot high thistle in my front flowerbed!! Paul knew I wouldn,t be happy with that! After joining the Optimist Club, Paul dug right in, volunteering not only his time but his experience with food!
You will miss him dreadfully, my consolation. Is that he and Doug are. Back to their old tricks! Keep those memories alive, talk about him often. With sincere sympathy and love, Judie Bowlby.

Dear Pat and Family: Paul was our neighbourhood rock!! If you needed any help with anything, ask Paul, he,ll be there! Paul was also a wonderful woodworker, donating many of his craft to Interfaith Counselling Auction. When either Doug Miller or Doug Bowlby invited him to join the Optimist Club, Paul dug right in! He was in his glory managing the food booth at the New Hamburg Fall Fair. He was humorous and entertaining and was very fond of sharing porch parties and wine with us over the last 45 years.
I know you will all miss him so much as will I, but I take comfort knowing he and his buddy Doug are up to no good in heaven! Love to You All.
Cherish those memories. With deepest sympathy, Judie Bowlby

Paul was a prankster with the neighbours ... setting off firecrackers with my Dad Doug Bowlby, dressing up for Halloween parties or joining in on happy hour get togethers with the neighbours. Can you imagine the trouble Paul and Doug will be in now that they are together in heaven?
Paul always made you laugh!
