Mirjana SMILJANIC

1962 - 2021

We announce with great sadness that on Tuesday, July 13 th, 2021, Mirjana Smiljanic passed away in her home with her family by her side after fighting a long and brave battle with cancer. Mirjana was a beloved wife to Bude Smiljanic and devoted mother to Radomir and Danica Smiljanic. She was future mother-in-law to Kevin Steger and will be deeply missed. Born, February 27, 1962 in Toronto, to parents Branka and the late Milenko (Bill) Djurovic, she is survived by her siblings Radmila Radosavljevic and Milan Djurovic. Mirjana touched the hearts of many and will be missed by her brother-in-law Goran Radosavljevic and nieces Maya and Jana Radosavljevic. She was a dear sister-in-law to Rade & Milica Smiljanic, Mira Smiljanic and loved her nieces Mira Milicevic (nephew-in-law, Milan Milicevic) and Dara Smiljanic. Her Aunt Milena Misich, late Uncle Vlado Misich and cousins Bob and Elaine Misich will also miss her and keep her in their prayers. She was loved by her extended family, Mirjana Brainovic and Budimir Knezevic and their families. Her relatives in Serbia, Italy and Sweden also mourn her loss. Mirjana was an active member of the Serbian community since her childhood. She celebrated her culture by listening to Serbian music, singing in the church choir, dancing kolo and volunteering as a sister of the St George & Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church. Mirjana leaves behind her a legacy of kindness, faith, love and compassion. She was adored by everyone who ever met her and her memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew her and loved her. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the countless healthcare workers and doctors that helped her fight this disease. A special thanks to Mirjana's RN, Liliya Shevchouk who not only cared for Mirjana's medical needs but befriended and supported the family on a level that cannot be measured. She was loved and supported by many friends, like Karen Hoare and Donna Harris, and will be missed by her work family at the Niagara Regional Police. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to the NRPS for showing her love, support, compassion and for the many visits, phone calls and text messages that gave Mirjana the strength to fight.
Mirjana will be remembered for her contagious laughter, open heart, beaming smile, and for always being the life of the party. She was known for her strength, bravery and determination. Her courage and positive outlook on life was an inspiration to those around her and gave strength to her family in difficult times. She will be fondly remembered and lives forever on in our hearts. Under current pandemic conditions, provincial restrictions limit the number of guests at visitations. All visitors must wear a face mask and practice physical distancing. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls, between 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A private funeral service will be held at Saint George Serbian Orthodox Church, 6085 Montrose Rd., Niagara Falls, with interment at Lundy's Lane Cemetery to follow.
