Abel DIAMOND Obituary
ABEL JOSEPH DIAMOND (Jack) November 8, 1932 - October 30, 2022 It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Jack Diamond. His was a remarkable life. Jack was born in Piet Retief, a small town in South Africa, and died at 40,000 feet above the Caribbean Sea, nine days short of his 90th birthday. He was educated at the Universities of Cape Town, Oxford and Pennsylvania in architecture and political philosophy. He came to Toronto in 1964 and worked for the next 58 years to make it a better place. Apart from the planning and architectural firm he founded, his passions were music, painting, history and politics, all of which he studied with love and enthusiasm. The other achievements of which he was extremely proud were scoring the winning try for Oxford University against Australia, and being made an Officer of the Order of Canada. He leaves to mourn the family he loved dearly, his wife of 63 years, Gillian; his sister, Stella (Sidney); his son, Andrew (Linda); and daughter, Suki (Tyler); his grandsons, Josh (Evita), Daniel (Arielle), Diamond, Cole and Hayden Whisnand; and Andrew's step-sons, Andrew and Adam Kitchen. We will forever remember and miss his love, humour, intellect and unreserved support. The family would like to express their immense gratitude to all who made it possible for Jack to live as fully as he did until the end of his life. In his memory, please consider a donation to the Diamond Schmitt Ontario Graduate Student Scholarship for Students in the Masters of Architecture Program at the Daniels Faculty of Architecture at the University of Toronto. There will be a celebration of his life at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, Saturday, November 19, 2022 4:30-6:30 p.m.
