CHARLES BRISBIN Obituary

CHARLES BRISBIN Born in Holden, Alberta on February 1, 1918 son of the late Charles Nelson Brisbin and Mary Elizabeth (nee Kennedy) Charles passed away peacefully on March 16th, 2006 in Waterloo in his 89th year. Loving husband of 58 years to Doreen (nee Ockenden). Father of Brian (Kathleen), Katherine (Anthony) and Ritchard (Sheefra). Grandfather to Raef, Rhys, Chase, Christopher, Peter, Iain, Toby, Calla, Michael, Montana, Shelby and Wilder. Charles will be remembered for being an articulate champion of the English language, for his passion for clocks and books and for his love of the sea and sailing. After Charles returned from WWII as a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery he briefly pursued engineering at the University of Alberta before a love for language and books lead him to a career in library science. It was this love that led to his appointment to Chief Librarian for the City of Waterloo followed by Chief Librarian of the City of Hamilton where he oversaw the development of the South Central Regional Library System of Southern Ontario. At Charles' request there will be no service. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. If desired, in lieu of flowers donations should be made to the ABC Canadian Literacy Foundation. Friends may send condolences via cards or to [email protected]
