David OLIVER Obituary

David William Alexander Oliver May 5, 1936 - November 22, 2023 On Wednesday, November 22, 2023, David William Alexander Oliver, aged 87, peacefully passed away. Born to David William Graham and Florence Eleanor (nee Weaver) Oliver, David's life was a remarkable journey that spanned continents and skies. David is survived by his wife, Kathleen Miriam (nee MacGregor) Oliver; and his children, Kimberly Owen (Perry) and Matthew Oliver (Julie). His memory will also be carried on by his adoring grandchildren, Jane Oliver and Duncan Oliver. Growing up in Montreal West, David initially pursued Engineering at McGill University before charting a different course that reflected his adventurous spirit - he aspired to become a pilot. Setting his sights high, he found himself based in Winnipeg, flying the Viscount with Trans-Canada Airlines. For the next 39 years, David's responsibilities continued to grow as did the aircraft he flew for Air Canada, culminating in the role of a Boeing 747 Captain. His professional journey took him to various corners of the world, including postings in India and Sri Lanka. Beyond the cockpit, David was an avid tennis player and golfer, finding joy in the precision of these sports. His love for travel extended to family, as he took his children out of school to enjoy longer layovers in cities like Munich, London and Los Angeles, creating lasting memories. A celebration of David's rich and vibrant life is being planned for Spring 2024, where friends and family will gather to honour and remember the man and his adventurous spirit.

My sympathy to the family. Played tennis at North York Tennis Club for years
with David, lunches at Olde Yorke Fish and Chips, and a pint. Never had a bad
day with David. I'd say to him, "when I go out with you, It's like stepping up a
couple of levels in society. A great guy to be around.

To Kathleen and the Oliver family

We were sorry to hear of David’s passing. I met Dave when he played golf with our group at Spring Lakes Golf Club many years ago. Playing golf was something he and I both enjoyed. I always enjoyed hearing his stories of flying. Sending you our sincere condolences.

To the entire Oliver family...I am so sorry for your loss.
Captain Oliver was my simulator and flight instructor when I was on my L-1011 First Officer course. A man of dignity and class...with a tremendous dry sense of humour. He was a good instructor...and good pilot...and a great man!
My thoughts are with Dave´s family.
Warm thoughts and kindest regards...

Sincere condolences to Kathleen and family. Long time golf and lunch pal. In recent years when I phoned him I would introduce myself as "the Mayor of Pelly" which would always garner a huge laugh. Our last lunch was not too long before his passing. Rest in peace old friend.
