Griffith MacDONALD Obituary
MacDONALD, Griffith Binning
On Sunday, October 31, 1999, at Toronto General Hospital. Griff MacDonald was born at Listowel, Ontario, March 13, 1905, the youngest of four children born to Edward Graham McDonald and Annie (Mitchell) McDonald. He was predeceased by his sister Marguerite, brother William and sister Anne. Following attendance at Toronto Normal School, he taught for several years before going to Queen's University in Kingston. There he graduated in Commerce, and also met his future bride, Alma MacIntyre of East Templeton, Quebec. They were married in 1935 and enjoyed a happy life together until Alma's death in 1984. He missed her greatly for 15 years. In 1937, Griff became a member of the Certified Public Accountants Association of Ontario and in the late 1940s a senior partner in the firm Eakins and MacDonald. Very active in the movement to merge the CPAA with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, Griff was recognized by the Institute in 1987 with its Award of Merit. He also served as President of the Public Accountants Council. A dedicated member of the Christian community, Griff served for more than fifty years as an Elder of Runnymede Presbyterian Church in Toronto. His relatives, many friends and associates recognized in him a person having high standards, a deep sense of responsibility, an ongoing interest in public policy and world affairs, and active compassion for others. His reliable counsel will be missed by all, and especially by his sons, Graham (Calgary), and Ian and his wife Marney, granddaughter Shelagh Goodfellow and husband Doug, and grandsons Keith and Alan, all of Montreal. He enjoyed being greatgrandad to Ashley Goodfellow. The family thanks Dr. Kim, nurse Lisa and other staff at the TGH Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit for their compassionate care. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. West, at Windermere near the Jane Subway, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday. Funeral service at Runnymede Presbyterian Church, 680 Annette St., on Friday, November 5 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or Runnymede Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.
