It is with profound sadness the Givens family must announce Gwen's death. Gwen died quickly at the age of 70 on Tuesday, August 17, 1999 at the place she loved the most, with Alex at her side. Her relationship with each family member surpasses that describable in words and she was deeply respected and admired by everyone she knew. Gwen is survived by husband Alexander Givens, daughters Nellie Stratton, Sheila Givens, Laura Givens, Bria Givens, son Michael Givens, parents Elsie and Earl Bagsley, sisters Mrs. Joan James and Mrs. Gail Bonser. Gwen will be deeply missed by her family and scores of friends. Gwen's involvement in the Canadian Opera Company and the Granite Club's curling offered her untold hours of entertainment and friendship. The relationships and accomplishments she developed there became an important part of her life. Gwen was at her happiest sitting on the porch at the old place in Muskoka. Gwen's life and specifically the last ten years served as an inspiration to all who knew her. When faced with adversity she put on a smile and took a brave step forward. A private service and party will be held in Gwen's honour as wished by her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.
