ROBIN BROOKS LECKIE Honours B.A., F.S.A., F.C.I.A. 1931 - 2018 On a lovely summer evening, we lost a bright light from our lives when we said goodbye to Robin, precious husband, father and grandfather - our treasure, our rock and our joy. At his bedside were his beloved family - his wife, Rosemary; his dear sister, Judith; his children, Barbara, Stephen, Ted and Ann; and his grandchildren, Michal, Ben, Noam, Maeve, Alicia and Alannah. Also there was Sandra and his niece, Susan. There, in their hearts, were Dave, Robin, Ruth, Melissa, and his Vancouver nephew, Steven and his family. Robin was predeceased by his "younger" twin brother, Peter, and his dear sister-in-law, Bettyann. Robin was in love with the elegance of mathematics but it is impossible to give a number to the people who will miss him. Equally at home in Vancouver and in Toronto, he loved the Seawall and the Boardwalk, Stanley Park and the parks of The Beach, the Coastal mountains, and the peace and beauty of Muskoka. At his essence was a defining core of goodness and integrity. His brilliant mind and deep love for all of us encouraged us to live our best lives. Robin grew up in Vancouver, graduating from UBC in 1953. His whole career was with Manulife Financial, retiring in 1988, as Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary. He was a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (President 1975-1976) and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. (President 1980-1981). His interests were wide and eclectic and his generosity, unbounded. He instilled in his children, a love of learning and a love of nature and the thrill of a win in their competitive games together. His career took him to 36 countries and when travelling, was often asked for directions from the natives, and usually could answer correctly. Robin always said he had had the most wonderful life and wouldn't change a thing. We are overflowing with gratitude for sharing his life. We want to thank his nephew, Dr. Bruce Topp, and all the staff at Cedarhurst Dementia Care Home who filled his heart with love and kindness, and his days with happy activities. He was especially proud of his paintings. For those who would like to remember Robin, donations to Cedarhurst would be appreciated. A service of celebration of Robin's life will be held on July 30th at 2 p.m. at Rosedale United Church in Toronto.
