Sheila Kent Obituary
In the early hours of May 21, 2021, our lovely mum Sheila Katherine Kent (nee Fossey) died in her sleep at the North Shore Hospice in North Vancouver, BC. Mum was born on August 16, 1925, in Mitcham, Surrey, England. She grew up in Mitcham and when WW2 broke out, she signed up as a WAAF and worked at Medmenham, in the photo-reconnaissance library. She met our dad, Henry Ulrich Kent (previously Knopfmacher) at the Stage Door Canteen at Piccadilly Circus in London. He was a paratrooper on leave, and they married six weeks later. After the war, mum and dad lived in Hampstead, where their first daughter Winona was born in 1954. In 1957 they emigrated to Regina, Saskatchewan, where their second daughter, Stella was born and where Henry built up a successful travel agency business. After Henry died in 1985, Sheila moved to BC to be with her two daughters. Sheila enjoyed a fabulous "second life" in Burnaby and North Vancouver, working at YVR as a Green Coat, and also as a rep with Saga Tours and Holland American Cruises. She travelled the world with Stella, who worked for Princess Cruises, and in her final years was as alert as she'd ever been, though her health was beginning to decline. Sheila was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Kitty Fossey; her brother, Mike; and her husband, Henry. She's survived by her two daughters, Winona (married to Jim Goddard) in New Westminster, BC, and Stella, in North Vancouver, BC. Mum made many friends over the years and was full of beans right up until her final two weeks. We thank everyone for all their support as she went on her final journey. We particularly want to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at the North Shore Hospice in North Vancouver, for their compassion and skill and understanding. Have excellent travels, mum and we'll toast you with your favourite tipple of gin.
