Douglas NEEDHAM Obituary

On Sunday, January 24, the Lord called home His faithful servant, Douglas Needham, to be with Him. Doug passed away peacefully at home in Burlington with family at his side. Doug was a kind, caring, and gentle soul, and a loving husband to Shirley and a devoted father to Douglas (Jr.) who both felt blessed to have had him in their lives. He was a teacher for the Hamilton-Wentworth School Board for over 30 years. Doug served as an Elder at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Burlington for many years and enjoyed the fellowship there. He was an avid gardener, loved summers at the cottage, enjoyed vacations at Disney World, and supported all of the local sports teams. Doug will be missed by his extended family of brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. There will be a private family service and once COVID restrictions have ended, there will be a Celebration of Life Service. Funeral arrangements have been made through Smith's Funeral Homes (Guelph Line Chapel). Donations in Doug's memory may be made to St. Paul's Presbyterian Church. www.smithsfh.com

My condolences to Doug's family. I apologize for the lateness of this notice but I just found his obituary online. I taught school with Doug at Collegiate Avenue when I first started teaching. Doug was a great mentor to me and I really appreciated his friendship and guidance. We both taught special education classes. I am truly saddened by his death and offer my prayers to all. When I knew Doug he lived in Winona. I just found out about Karl Eden's death and it was Karl's wife, Suzanne that informed me of Doug's death. I was single then and my name was Peggy MacNeil. I now am married and living in Baddeck, Nova Scotia.

It was my honour and privilege to have Doug on my staff at Winona Public School. He was a great staff member and a wonderful teacher who loved the students he taught each day. He was a kind, gentle and generous person who always went out of his way to consider others first. I have many fond and pleasant memories of Doug . May he rest in peace.

Mr. Needham was my grade 4 teacher. He told me to stand up to bullies and don't be scared of the boys who like you but would rather show you it by pushing you in puddles ! He was an amazing kind teacher and always smiled. Thank you for being a great blessing! From Winona public school we adore you !

Dear Needham family, I was a student while Mr. Needham was a grade 8 teacher at Tapleytown School. As a former student, I just want to let you know that he was highly thought of as a very gentle man who cared about his students. May your happy memories help you through your sorrow. Take care.
