Eleanor was born October 8, 1933, in Oakville, Ontario and passed away peacefully at Hamilton Continuing Care on July 2, 2022, at the age of 88. She lived a sometimes-difficult life, overcoming sadness with her practicality and slightly wicked sense of humour. An only child, she lost her parents at an early age. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur Clayton (April 28, 1986), with whom she raised seven children - Sharon, Robert, Debbie (deceased), Eric, Adrienne, Jim (deceased) and Albert (deceased). With seven kids to raise, Eleanor was a master of making a meal stretch and sewed many of the kids' clothes herself. She was a very proud grandmother to Jessica, Tina, Kenya, Kofi, Michael, Daniel, David, and Maureen, speaking of them often, and was a great grandmother several times over. Hardworking and determined, Eleanor became a nurse, a profession she loved. Widowed early, she learned to drive in her 50s and was fiercely independent. A long-time resident of Villa Kiev, she made some fast friends there with whom she would happily pass away the time gossiping and having a good laugh. She loved all sorts of crafting and was accomplished at sewing, knitting, and crocheting. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Eleanor moved to Hamilton Continuing Care in 2020. Thank you to the many kind staff there, including Nelia, Bev, Samantha, Ingrid, Heather, Cheryl, Alexandra, Kelly, and many others. Mom's universe shrank in the last few years, thanks mostly to Covid, and your daily thoughtfulness and friendship meant a great deal to her. In Eleanor's own words, she has packed her bags and is now flying high. Her family will receive friends at the Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Ave. E. on Wednesday, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 7th at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, a small donation to the Alzheimer's Society would be a kind way to remember her.
