Moreen Duff Thomas passed peacefully on Wednesday morning May 18, 2022 at the age of 94 in Burlington, Ontario. Born in Glasgow, Scotland May 4, 1928 Moreen Duff Muir, AKA "Mo" married John Edward Thomas (1926-1996) in Glasgow, Scotland. Together, they emigrated to Canada in 1947 where John assumed the pastorship of Westover and Mountsberg Baptist Churches. Moreen is survived by her two sons, David and Ian, six grandchildren, Carrie, Jake, Johnathan, Emily, Harrison and Charlie and four great-grandchildren Lauren, Ethan, Luke, and Grace.

In 1953 Moreen moved with her husband John and sons, to Toronto, where John assumed the pastorship of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Etobicoke. In 1957 Moreen and her family moved to Durham, North Carolina where Moreen was the secretary and assistant to famed parapsychologist, Dr. Karl Zener at Duke University. In 1960 Moreen and family moved back to Canada where John assumed an assistant professorship in the department of philosophy at McMaster University.

Moreen completed her ARCT at the Royal Conservatory of Music in 1970 and went on to become a church organist at several churches in the Hamilton area, finally settling at Burlington Baptist Church where she was the organist and music director for 17 years. An accomplished Harpist, Moreen played professionally with Beverly Wilson and Lisa Tobias in a trio of Harp, Cello and Flute called "Mobelise Ensemble". Several of Moreen's original arrangements and compositions were published by Lyon & Healy. Moreen spent her twilight years until the age of 90, playing piano for sing-a-longs at retirement homes in the greater Hamilton area. She loved music, traveled the world, and lived life to its fullest. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Mo was my neighbour for many years at Lakepoint. She played Christmas carols for us at the Christmas parties, and she held Friday evening sing-alongs in her apartment. She was always a bright light, so positive and cheerful. What a wonderful lady and neighbour. She was a blessing.

Mrs. Thomas was a very sweet and special lady. I met her when I was seven. (I was later encouraged to call her Mo.) She was my piano teacher for many years. She infected me with her passion for music. I was always greeted with a huge smile when I arrived and we had lots of laughs together.
I have fond memories of Mo and John cheering enthusiastically after I had played my piece too fast at their recitals. Lots of fun and always meringues!
I always think of Mo when I sit down at my keyboard and when I eat meringues.
We have kept in touch once a year at Christmas. I will miss hearing what she and her family are up to.
I am a teacher now. I am grateful to have had this wonderful lady as a role model for an inspiring, positive teacher.

I miss the great "cuppa´s" I had with Mo after tuning her piano ... she was a delight and I´m grateful for the times I spent with her and the musical moments we shared. Bless her.

I met Mo during her widowhood. 4' 8" of energy, humour, and devotion to music. She spoke with such fondness of her husband and the warm family life they had shared. And, yes, she was so proud of and grateful to her sons. I've no doubt that there is a lot of laughter and music where Mo's spirit has settled.

I had the privilege of sharing some memorable meals with John and Mo. John was my very first professor - Philosophy 1A6- when I started at McMaster U in 1973. Some years later, we reconnected through my husband´s work. John and Mo were such a devoted couple- It was beautiful to witness. Mo was full of life and fun- I found out she came from the same part of Glasgow as my family. The thing that always struck me when we were with Mo and John was how very proud they were of their two sons, Ian and Dave - they talked about them all the time. When Ian with his colleagues Lunch at Allen´s - performed a benefit for Dundas Community Services, Mo could be seen beaming in the audience! A light has certainly gone out in our world with Mo´s passing. But now she is shining bright in the heavens next to John. With deepest sympathy to all Mo´s family and much gratitude for having had the opportunity to meet her.
