ELIZABETH "BETTY" SABISTON

ELIZABETH SABISTON Obituary

SABISTON, ELIZABETH "BETTY" After a months-long struggle with leukemia, Betty passed away peacefully, on April 29, 2023, at the age of 85. Predeceased by her parents, Flora (Robertson) and John T. Sabiston. Betty leaves behind her loving partner of 62 years, Eddy Bouraoui, as well as cousins Pat and Hans Hakenspiel of Toronto, Frank and Jean McGee of Scotland, and Ian Sabiston of London, UK. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Sunnybrook Hospital's Palliative Care Unit for the compassionate care they provided in Betty's final days. Friends are welcome to join family at a graveside ceremony for Betty at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Elgin Mills Cemetery, 1591 Elgin Mills Rd. E., Richmond Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Elizabeth Sabiston Prize in English at York University would be appreciated. For service information and online condolences, please visit: www.etouch.ca.

I am so saddened to hear of Prof. Sabiston´s passing. I received an email only yesterday (November 29) in this regard and so wish I had been notified earlier so I could have paid my respects.
Dear Betty was my favourite prof. This is such a tragic loss. May her dear soul rest in eternal peace.

Although I never had the pleasure of studying with Betty, I knew her during my time as a graduate student at York University. She was a brilliant, strong woman who was ahead of her time. Her scholarly contributions will live on. I will always remember her.
