Mary Stelmasik Obituary

STELMASIK, Mary Leokadia (nee Grys) —

May 31, 1926 to June 3, 2017

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, with their love, at Copernicus Lodge, Toronto. Cherished daughter to Anna and John Grys. Dear sister to Jenny (1985) and Zygmunt Ozyko and Ben and Gladys (2015) Grys. Beloved wife and life partner to Felix (1987). Special Ciocia and "Coco Mary" to Michael (2010) Susan, Bonnie, Barbara (Scott), Brian (Karen), Laura, Timm, Jennifer, Edward, Sarah, Ben and Jessica and their families. A special friend to Emily Krula, the Auxiliary members at Copernicus Lodge and her card playing friends and neighbours on the 6th floor. Mary will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her zest for life, her fun loving spirit and perhaps most notably, her zippy little walk. She lived her life with integrity, kindness, intelligence and quiet determination. Mary was involved as a young Girl Guide at St. Stan's. She entered the workforce as a teenager at the York Knitting Mill followed by many years at Sears Canada. She was also a much valued Copernicus Auxiliary member for over thirty years. Mary eagerly fulfilled every work and volunteer role requested of her. Mary never failed to express and share her love of family, friends, her proud and humble beginnings, holiday gatherings, gardening, birds and squirrels, trees in bloom, polka and big bands, fish 'n chips, nalesniki, a good cup of tea or a drop of whiskey, her opinions on politics and those Toronto Maple Leafs. Mary was one of a kind and she has left the world a better place for her having been here. While donations to Copernicus Lodge in memory of Mary would be gratefully appreciated by the family, Mary would love just as much that you "save your money" and instead extend a kind gesture to someone who needs one. A special thank you to Dr. Robert Stachula and the incredible caring staff in Supportive Services at Copernicus, and at the 5th Floor South. Stolat! Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of the Jane subway, on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with Rosary prayers at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 12 Denison Ave., Toronto, on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. Interment Mount Hope Cemetery. On behalf of my mother, Annna Starkiewicz , please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for the loss of Mary. Our hearts go out to you in this time of sorrow. My parents, Anna and Kazimierz, were neighbors across the hall of Mary on the 6th floor apartments. I just would like to thank Mary for the help she extended to my mother, Anna, after my Father passed away. She was always there to help take out the garbage or help in other ways, before my Mom left the apartment to reside in Long Term Care on 1-South.
Rest in peace Mary.
