Ralph was a great teacher, with a pleasant and engaging wit that gave life to the cases he described, and even illuminated black letter law in a memorable fashion. He'll be missed.

A good and wise man, Ralph Scane was a much loved teacher and scholar in the University of Toronto's Faculty of Law. The University continued to benefit from Ralph's counsel and leadership in our academic appeals processes for many years after he retired from the professoriate. My own interactions with Ralph were always brightened by his unique combination of formal speech and wry humour. His many friends and fans at the University will miss him and remember him always with respect and affection. On behalf of the University of Toronto, I extend our community's condolences to the Scane family. The University's flags on all three campuses are flying at half-mast today in memory of this great Canadian.
Sincerely

I am sorry for the family's loss.
I knew Ralph as a client of my very small business, doing PC repair and trouble shooting.
He was the best because he always paid in full and refused to accept my discount, which I am notorious for. I always enjoyed working for Ralph and he also gave me some good advice in regards to my own Dad's will and estate.
It was a pleasure knowing him and I will miss him.
Regards,

Remembering his sense of humour and he tolerating me when I went for holidays at Georgie and Charlie's when I was a young girl 60 years ago. My Mom, Ruth McEwing, is forever grateful to Ralph for acquiring her birth certificate many years after she was born on the Atlantic Ocean. He will be missed.
