BLADEK, MD MA FRCP(C), Roman It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Roman - loving husband, father, Dziadziu, Pra Dziadziu and brother; dedicated physician, teacher, and lifelong learner on March 22, 2022 at the age of 97. Beloved husband of Casimire (Kazia) Rup for 67 years. Loving father of Diane (Greg Willett), and John. Devoted Dziadziu to Andrew (Kaylyn), Peter (Megan), and Stephen (Alexandra). Pra Dziadziu to Emery and Rowen. Roman will be missed by his brother Zenon B??dek, (Hania), and nephews Roland (Malgorzata) and W?odek (Kasia) and their families in Poland. He will be fondly remembered by sister-in-law, Elona Kurosad (Ted), nephew Jim, and Peter Gregory (late Theresa) and their families in USA. He was predeceased by his son Raymond, his parents, Katarzyna Rabczak and Walenty B??dek, brother, Eugeniusz Pa?ciak and sister W?adys?awa Kuleczka (Pa?ciak). Roman was born in Bednary, Pozna?, Poland. He immigrated to Canada following World War II. He graduated from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine, in 1953 and obtained his specialist designation in Internal Medicine in 1961. An MA in Microbiology followed in 1963. Roman joined the staff of Toronto Western Hospital in 1961 and opened a practice dealing with allergies, immunology and respirology. He was co-director of the Medical ICU and Head of Respirology for over 15 years during which time he provided exemplary care to many critically ill patients. Roman was an Associate Professor of Medicine with the University of Toronto and gave invaluable teaching experiences and lectures to countless medical students and residents. From 1982-1989, he was the Chief Medical Director for Homes for the Aged in Ontario with the Ministry of Community and Social Services. For a number of years during retirement, Roman was an active member of the Quality Assurance Committee of Copernicus Lodge. Roman was passionate about his family, medicine, and education. A voracious reader and a lifelong learner, he thrived on imparting his latest knowledge to all of us. Roman and Kazia enjoyed travelling and cruises. They cherished their many years at their cottage and the beautiful sunsets of Georgian Bay, hosting many generations of family and friends there. Roman thoroughly enjoyed family celebrations, philosophical discussions, and all things science. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 24, 2022 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. West, Toronto. A Funeral Service will be held at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Copernicus Lodge, or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated by the family.
